Well, as similar to my garage door opener debacle.............(Garage door motor's fine, it's simply the electronics that fail in their feeble comparison to mechanical simplicity)..........my $1,100 GE profile refrigerator is in need of yet ANOTHER service call in the 4 years I've owned it.

Last night it froze everything to the point that I couldn't get water to dispense from the water dispenser. This happened the last time and it was an electronically controlled gateway that limits cooling from the single-source cooling unit. It had broken & fallen open allowing everything in the refrigerator to be as cold as the freezer including the water filter which stopped flow.

So, I shut it down by pushing the fancy digital numbers downto zero (they flash confirming "off" code) then let it sit for about 5 minutes and turned it back on to the default 5/5. Thing didn't make a sound, but within a half hour I was able to get water out of the tap again.

Well, I woke up this morning & now I can hear something humming, but now fan blowing it in & now everything in the freezer is thawing. Niiiiiiice!

Lowe's can't communicate with GE to get my contract #......(I bought a 5 year platinum plan when I bought the fridge.....thank GOD!).........and neither Lowes nor GE can communicate with the service company responsible and the service company can't do anything 'til I get hold of the (currently CLOSED) division of GE to get them my contract #.

Ain't life grand?

Didnt someone else here just have a big hassle with some GE appliance and Lowe's?

Isnt there are certain number of times they will service something under extended protection plans before giving you a new one due lemon clauses and/or laws?

When I moved into my house, I bought a new GE washer and dryer. 2 weeks after moving in, New Years Day, my wife did a load of clothes as we sat watching some tv. The sensor to cutoff the water malfunctioned and flooded the house.

At least GE's insurance paid to fix everything. We promptly talked to Home Depot after dealing with GE to get it fixed. We told Home Depot we could never trust the washer and wanted to return it. They went out of their way to take it back and get us a Maytag washer and dryer.

Thanks for the moral support gang!

What's really is hilarious is that because GE/Lowes/contractor can't communicate with eachother, I have (as of my wife's grocery shopping yesterday) about $165 worth of groceries melting away in there.

On the good side.........(in an effort to enjoy whatever's left before it melts).........it's gonna be an ice-cream eating extravaganza here at the redgtxdi household.........LOL!!

I bought the 5yr "Platinum Plan" which covers us for $250 worth of food loss.

What's sad about that is that GE/Lowe's ***COULD*** have prevented such a loss if they were able to process my claim without having to hold everything up until they found my contract #. I mean, I've got my receipt.........my receipt is tied to MY credit card and THIS refrigerator. I've lived in this same house for 10 years with the SAME phone #. (which is all the information they seem to be wanting to use to verify that I AM who IAM) Yet the contractor's hands are completely tied behind their back until Lowe's can communicate with them tomorrow............(at which time all of my frozen food will be melted).

This is 2006 right?? 21st century & all that??

;)

Good job, but you missed the critical step of having your wife get a tattoo of the contract number on her lower back.
