Holy f*ck, this is annoying.

My Compaq mouse no longer goes up/down. Only left-right.
(I am using the TAB and SPACE key to do all screen navigation)

For a few weeks, I would smash it a few times,
and it would resume working,

No more.

I have several backup mice that I've tried.
NOTHING else will work with my WinXPSP2.

Either there's no mouse detected at all,
and in some cases,
the keyboard is "dead" with ANY other mouse plugged in.

WTF is this? Should a PC do this?
Is this an OS issue, or a mouse issue?

Should I just get some kind of USB Optical mouse?
Any reccs on a deal?

Change mice. They are too cheap to get excited about.

Boot into SAFE Mode and reinstall the Mouse Driver Software
See what it does then

Most of the mice I buy do not have "mouse driver software". His might not either. If it affects his kb too, it may be the i/o chip on the mb.

If he has no mouse drivers, then I would reload the chipset drivers
and also do a repair install of windows ... it is possible a file got
corrupted somehow

USB mouse plugged and played.
Back in BIZ.
Now I can finally drag/drop again.

Fairly surprizing how much you can do with just keyboard shortcuts

Thanks for the help, guys.
