I guess Amazon will have a few weeks of pre-order with only the $200 Nvidia Shield as competition before Google presumably announces a 4k Nexus Player and/or Chromecast at the 9/29 Nexus event.

There's a big horsepower difference between this and the Shield, obviously, but if you're not going to game it shouldn't make much difference.

Not a big deal since I don't expect we'll be seeing 4K at higher framerates than that other than specialty videos. There's not even much 1080p/60 content. In fact I think the bigger benefit is that HEVC/h.265 should help cut down on storage sizes/bandwidth, meaning that we should see a boost in quality even at sub-4K resolution streaming.

Definitely will be interested in this as am looking into finally setting up a network streaming setup. Kinda depends on what all I do, but could be interested in one or two of these. A Chromecast might be a better fit for one of them, but I think the Amazon one would be a good fit for the other.

Do any of the Roku's do h.265/HEVC yet?

I agree, the HEVC/h.265 will be more important in practical terms. but I don't think 99% of people will notice.
