ok guys so here's the screen that my friend is getting after he updated his drivers to the latest nvidia 280.26 whql .... now he's saying the issue is occuring randomly can occur after few minutes, half an hour ...maybe after a few hours but it is coming... the pattern is like the screen will start flickering a bit, goes blank then a message pops-up for a split-second saying something like "nvidia this-that stopped working and has been recovered" and then it disappears then after a few minutes this above shown pixelation happens and screen hangs up..... now i suggested him uninstalling nvidia control panel and using driver sweeper for nvidia display in safe mode. he did it and made a fresh install of the drivers but still getting the problem. now we're gonna try re-installing the windows and then making a fresh install of everything including the new drivers of course.

but what if we still get the problem? then what next in trouble shooting?
changing the cables is out of question cause the guy is using a CRT display from "Einstein and Newton's" time which has the vga attached to it... the only option remains changing the display temporarily...... if it is a display problem the solution is straight-forward but if it isn't then it's complicated because it's my card that i sold him and i'm responsible for it atleast till it's in warranty.

anyways still if you think the problem has nothing to do with hardware then what possibly according to you could be the reason for this unwanted, uncalled for phenomenon?

n yes i insist him on using paid antivirus (i love my kaspersky internet security) but well he keeps avoiding it i dunno why..... could it be because of some virus?

by the ways his card is xfx 9600gt which runs on slot power no separate power required....

core i3 system on an intel motherboard with single pci-e slot and ram 8gb

psu is from tech com and the wattage is 430 watts.... (not a very famous company you see)

no he hasn't tried the old drivers but is he not gonna need those to play the new games

and i don't know if he's running the native resolution or not but i do know that the res supported max. is 1152 x 864

Older drivers generally work fine UNLESS there is a specific fix for a particular game that you want to play.

Running an older monitor at any resolution but its native one is asking for trouble.

here there the screen goes something like this (not exactly like this)

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt92/libraryrose4/Computer/badgraphics2.jpg

now my friend hasn't tried playing games since he's getting this issue ...or so he's told me.... but the image i tried showing to you was of desktop all pixelated

It's not a gaming issue. Possibilities are running the monitor at non native resolution, overheating of GPU, corrupted driver or, failing cable/connectors.

I don't know why is everybody needing the latest drivers if everything is working as it should. I'm sure these drivers bring absolutely nothing to a card that's a few generations back. On the other hand he should revert to the drivers that were working, try to reseat the card, on a CRT you can change the resolution no quality problems as with the LCD. If all fails try to get another monitor just to check that the card is still alive.
