No religion and agnostic doesn't = atheist.

Let's be intellectually honest here.

Bleh, you don't know the definition of agnostic. There was a big debate with some other on here on that as well.

Basically it is this. Do you believe in a God (or Deity or Supreme Intelligence) Yes or No? It's a mutually exclusive answer and it is a simple one. If yes, you are not atheist. If no, then you are an atheist.

The religion itself is just a window dressing. The qualifications of why you don't believe in a God, such as being agnostic, do not matter.

Again, stating no religion, or stating agnostic is stating that you are atheist. Plain and simple.

I think what HumblePie is saying is that, per your OP where you include atheists and agnostics as one, the number is larger than you say.

And really, I fail to see the point of coming up with studies to post here anyways. Nobody is saying there are more atheists than christians, right? I know I've always known I was part of a very small minority when it comes to religion. Kudos for pointing out the obvious, I guess.

Just as obvious as the post concerning the decline in mainline Christian denomination, stated as the "sad state of relgion", I guess.

Did taking the Pope's quote taken out of context in the opening article of that thread bother you at all?

You are correct. When self-proclaimed "agnostics" are asked "Do you believe in God", the accurate answer for them is "No, I'm agnostic". No matter how you slice it, not holding an active belief in god/gods means you are without theism = a-theist.

**prepares for Mjin's moronic ass to come in and start a semantics game because he doesn't have the balls to admit he is an atheist.**

It's not quite the same thing. Bear with me, I'm thinking out loud here but I think it's fairly safe to assume that both christians and non-christians have always known christianity is the dominant religion in the US. It's probably more news worthy to say the dominant religion is losing members than it is to say atheism is gaining members.

That said, I can't really be bothered to care about what the pope says, regardless of whether or not it's taken out of context. I don't care if a TON of people think he's closer to god or whatever. He's just some bloke if you ask me.

And considering that atheists in many countries would have you being tortured or killed if you admit it, I think the fact that more people are willing to admit the are atheist every year shows something.

While in America you aren't as likely to be hurt physically (not always because it still does happen here sadly enough) for admitting that you are an atheist, most people still face major peer pressure and ridicule from theists. I had a friend that also decided he was an atheist. Then he lost all his previous friends and girl friend of 7 years because of that. It's really tough to take when that happens.

In light of that, the fact that there is a still a large amount of people willing to call themselves atheist, and a number that is growing and not shrinking, has to tell you something Phineas.

If you don't believe as I believe then your believe is dung and your prayers are a stench in the nasal passages of god. You might as well be atheists as far as god is concerned. False belief = no belief. Therefore atheists make up roughly 99.999999% of people who have ever lived.

Also, fresh cheese curds >> cottage cheese >>>>> cheddar.

Jalapeno cream cheese is tasty. Cheddar would ruin it. Speaking of tamales, it is green corn tamale season, mmmmm.

Nice graph Jules! Can you also create a line graph so that we can track the trend of this behavior over the last year?

sigh, op can't even read studies properly

http://www.americanreligionsurvey-a...cs_on_the_move_non-religious_on_the_rise.html

"In broad terms, ARIS 2008 found a consolidation and strengthening of shifts signaled in the 2001 survey. The percentage of Americans claiming no religion, which jumped from 8.2 in 1990 to 14.2 in 2001, has now increased to 15 percent. Given the estimated growth of the American adult population since the last census from 207 million to 228 million, that reflects an additional 4.7 million "Nones." Northern New England has now taken over from the Pacific Northwest as the least religious section of the country, with Vermont, at 34 percent "Nones," leading all other states by a full 9 points."

P.S. I know I am late to the party, but op needs another chance to read. Reading comprehension is not his forté.

i agree that cottage cheese is disgusting. I much prefer Farmer's cheese.

If I had my druthers, it would be a nice a hunk of yummy Gruyere. or a semi-soft smoked Pecorino--not that fake pecorino "romano" BS (sadly, I have yet to find this anywhere in the USA :()

I like a nice camenbert too--anything that spreads over a nice crunchy baguette.

Dude, I LOVE Gruyere cheese! It makes an awesome egg sandwich with some bacon and an english muffin. It makes the best grilled cheese sandwich too! Or just eat it by itself.

I likes me some goat cheese too. Get medjool dates, remove the pit, fill with goat cheese and sprinkle with some bread crumbs warmed in a pan with melted butter and bake for about 10 minutes. Yummy! Goat cheese is good on bagels too.

No religion does not equal atheism.

Im avoiding religion threads for now. Same people saying the same thing over and over. Not much real conversating going on. I dont even click on them because they just get my dander up. So much misinformation and ignorance begs for clarity and common sense.

I glanced at this one because my name came up. OP should let off the gas a tad. Take that from my own experience with threads on the subject going back to 2002. Throwing too much fuel on the fire doesnt end well - for anyone. :'(

the OP refuses to address our questions, and especially when we point out his errors. He has failed to engage us on all-important topics such as Cheese preference and the volume of Bill Murray's anus.

Since his failure to do so reflects your criticism of "not much real conversating [sic] going on," perhaps you could comment in his(your) place?

I live in the dairy state, Wisconsin. I know all about cheese and eat cheese on a regular basis. I live near a cheese facory. Discussions about cheese bore me.

mmmm, goat cheese. don't get me started on goat cheese.

let's also discuss salami. For my money, I much prefer Trader Joe's Pinot Grigio salamis, only $3.99 for a sausage. Damn tasty, excellent value. yum.

Wisconsin doesn't know all that much about cheese, tbfh. They have live by the same FDA-enforced pasteurization BS that all other US cheesemakers and importers live by.

You've probably never had real unpasteurized cheese, have you? You poor, sheltered, cheeseless (and therefore godless) heathen. :(
