My 2 cents:
After 40D and D300 announcements, above specs. seems boring.
Anways, depending on the price and new image processing, this might end up being a good deal. Hope Sony was able to make their image processing better.

D3 ISO 6400!

Given the shutter speed being 1/100, it was shot in a dark area (Important factor to consider.)
I'll need to see more samples and direct comparisons between D3 and possibly 5D to make final judgements, yet, if that picture is correct, it seems quite safe to say Nikon D3 is king of the hill when it comes to high ISO/Low noise performance.

Canon 40D.

Users are reporting that 40D doesn't seem to have focusing problems as the other Canon cameras: AF doesn't change each time when you press half press shutter button on a non-moving subject. When in Ai-Servo mode, AF doesn't change on a non-moving subject.

the only canon with focus problems afaik is the 1D, and i doubt the two share focus systems.

i doubt the 5D Mk. II is announced in october. canon needs to sell the remaining 1Ds Mk IIs first, i would think. i'll give it february/march. about the same time as the new rebel.

No, Canon has been known for its incorrect AF that occurs from time to time. It was believed to caused by 1. Poor AF algorithm 2. CMOS AF sensor 3. Using plastic part(not the case on 1d, 1ds lines), instead of glass matrial as Nikon does, on AF sensor module.

On Canon cameras, you'll notice how AF changes when you half press shutter button more than few times on a non-moving subject. Even when on AI-Servo mode, AF keeps changing even when the suject/camera doesn't move. You don't really get that steady 'Lock-on' status as Nikon and the other cameras brands do. You know there's a problem when AF keeps changing even when the camera/subject isn't moving.

Beside those possbile reasons mentioned, Canon tech Rep. said it is because circle of confusion is (I forgot exact term he used) than those of FF cameras. That seems to make sense in a certain way as 5D suffers a lot less from the problem; however, seeing how Nikon and the other brands don't really have same problem on crop factor cameras, it doesn't really make much sense.

Mark III does have AF problems which have been address all over the forums. Kind of a bummer for a high end camera, hopefully the intro of the new Nikon line will put Canon right. My old 20d didn't suffer from any AF problems that the Mark III are reported to have and I have not missed any sport shots due to my 1D AF.
