the rogue cooler - coolermaster hyper 48

I'm building a new system and have chosen the Prescott 3.4ghz processor... naturally the stock cooler has got to go, so...

Thus far I've read 3 reviews on this CoolerMaster Hyper 48 cooler. 1 was glowing, 1 was good, and the other was meh. Both the glowing and the good review showed great differences in temperatures from Hyper 48 to stock, which is always good!

Outside of installation, weight, cost... how does this thing really perform for YOU? I like the low noise levels that's for sure. I will be using this new system mainly for a/v editing and processing, so I need something (air-cooling 😉) to keep things in check, esp. with this hot hot hot prescott.

If you don't like this cooler setup, what would you recommend (make/model)? I see people like the Thermaltake coolers here. Noise is a consideration for me but not too important. COOLING is important! 🙂

Thanks!

edit: 3.4 not 3.2ghz, sheesh.

Check to see if your mobo can take the Thermalright XP-120 cooler... Pair that up with a good fan and you should be all set (for air cooling).

As for "why not H2O" some people don't want to dump >$200 on a processor cooler...

Thanks akira, I'll check it out. H2O would be cool but yeah, I don't want to dump that cash nor do I want to deal with the install etc.

The CollerMaster is supposed to be really good as well but I don't have any personal experience with it so I'd recommend the XP-90/120 as well.

Make sure you get a good fan, Panafows are the best you can buy. XP-90 / XP-120

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I really like the design of the new Asus Star Ice cooler too, any experience? It's precisely how I would have built my own cooler, if I only had the motivation. 🙂
