Howdy,
I saw the advertisement on Yahoo for The Rock's new movie, Walking Tall.

Is it truly a remake of the 1973 film, or just appropriating the title like the recent 1970s string of remakes that have little to do with the original (Charlies Angels, Starsky & Hutch, et al)?

Cheers!

The general ideal is legit. The original guy was named Bufford Pusser and it happened in the early 60's, but they have updated it and turned into a more glitzy movie, coincidentally, he was also a professional wrestler in his spare time.

Original movie: Joe Don Baker in somewhat true adventures of Buford Pusser, ex-Marine, ex-wrestler, married with children, who retires to Tennessee, runs afoul of local crime and corruption, and proceeds to clean up by getting elected sheriff and whomping all the bad guys with a big stick. Bad guys = moonshiners here.

New movie: The Rock as Chris Vaughn, ex-Army Special Forces, single and on the prowl, who returns to Washington State, runs afoul of local crime and corruption, and proceeds to clean up by getting elected for sheriff and whomping all the bad guys with a big stick. Bad guys = meth manufacturers here.

The new one seems less "based" on a true story than "inspired" by a true story.

I just saw this movie tonight and I have to say it was really good.

Much better than I thought it would be.

The Rock was actually pretty cool in it.

I saw this movie and thought it was good enough to maybe buy on DVD when it comes out...

The guy who plays the casino owner is awesome as a villian, but I don't understand how that puny little fvcker can hold his own with the Rock...

Bah, damn movies...
