Oh the humanity. Somewhere in the mounds of paperwork signed nearly 20 years ago Cigna covers abortion! Republicans will checkmark it and the world will resume order.

Since we pay for Viagra I don't see why not ...

Typically stupid reply. We shouldn't be paying for Viagra, and if we are, it should come to a swift end ASAP. If an old fart with a broken dick wants to get his sex on, he can pay for it himself. Fix what is broken (and I'm not talking about wrinkled peckers here), don't fuck up even more because we're already paying for some other stupid shit. But your answer is what I expect from the left..........bravo!

I'm sure insurance companies would be thrilled to cover abortion, since it's cheaper and less risky than childbirth. (Well - not to the baby, obviously.) Most don't because they know very few women choose abortion because it's cheaper; therefore they can not cover it and in most cases still not have to pay for childbirth*. It's nice to eat your cake and have it too.

* I have no problem with this, since insurance is a competitive market and one can always buy a policy with that coverage if desired. Not covering things keeps costs lower, which is a good thing as long as people understand up front what is and isn't covered.

It is legal, but it should absolutely NOT be negated in this debate. Except when the mother's life is in jeopardy, abortion is elective. No public insurance should pay for elective operations, period.

Should taxpayers pay for breast implants and face lifts?

Did you miss the word "stipulations"? Your attempt at being sarcastic when you obviously did not read the whole reply is futile.

I do not know the stipulations but there should be some in place at which I obviously stated and you obviously missed.

Edit: In my opinion abortion should not be paid for like it is birth control with any insurance. People should take some responsibility and use condoms, birth control or something. As I said, this is my opinion.

Oh, I read the whole reply, but you didn't elaborate on what these 'stipulations' would be. Sorry, I can't read your mind.

I find it hard to believe that the people that want abortion covered only want it covered if the mother's life is in danger.

On birth control, agreed.

I said stipulations as there will have to be abortion with some stipulations put in the bill or there will most likely be a 100% party split vote, or close to it. Both sides need to get together to work on those stipulations and come to an agreement.

I don't know what they are but they need to be ironed out.

The RNC's Health Plan Covers Abortion

Well, you tricked me with that thread title. I thought you were saying their "health care plan" like in a proposed bill etc.

Who cares what's in their employee plan? Knowing how politicians use OPM (other peoples' money), they probably bought themselves the most expensive top-shelf "cadillac" plan they could find that covers eveything possible.

I don't know if you've ever noticed, but Republicans actually oppose ALL abortion.
-snip-

Nah, you're wrong.

You know they always have a stipulation like "only in cases where the mother's life is in danger" etc.

Where is the hypocrisy?

Does the RNC use FEDERAL dollars to pay for its health care plan?

You guys are idiots.

What Republicans are opposing is taxpayer funded abortions. Cigna is a private health care insurer.

iirc, the amendment to the house-passed medical payment system deform bill disallows private plans covering abortions from participating in the public exchange part (can't remember what it's called, brainfart)

Wrong.

The Republican party platform specifically does NOT contain stipulations for 'only in cases of the mother's life, etc.'. While there are certainly individual Republicans that differ on that issue, that is not the stance of the party.

You recall incorrectly.

If the plan touches taxpayer money than it cannot pay for abortion.
If the plan is 100% financed with private dollars abortion can be covered.

What is so hard to understand.

it's been mis-reported.

the headlines scream that any plan that participates in the exchange cannot offer abortion coverage, when that is wrong.

text of the amendment itself:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/15284081/Stupak-Amendment-to-HR-3962-Rev-108

so this actually doesn't do anything to change general principles of the law as its been since 1976, which prohibits federal funding of abortion.

This is bad from a perception kind of view, but substantially irrelevent imo. I don't think anyone responsible for the plan sat down and said "ok, do we want to cover abortions, obviously yes!" They probably just didn't know it was covered. Which might go to the complexity of health coverage, i.e. you didn't know that cancer prescreening wasn't covered either, wouldn't it be nice if healthcare were simplified and shit was just covered?

So overall this aint a big deal as I see it, it's an optics problem. There's about 1000 better things to be slammin the GOP for rather than indavertent healthcare policy coverages. Seriously, does anyone believe the GOP secretly approves of abortions but only opposes them for politics? I don't think that, and I don't think George Tiller's murderer thought that either.

I think I'm still registered as a Republican (at least I know they have this insane idea I should send them money), but seriously, guys, no matter how diehard a Republican, everyone should be able to admit this is funny as hell. It's like if Outback Steak House discovered that PETA's cafeteria had been serving steak and lobster for the last twenty years.

Yeah I was laughing at the fact that they missed that one too. Apples and Oranges. If you buy private insurance and it happens to cover abortions that is not in conflict with someone against abortions because they are not going to get an abortion anyway.

I don't think your (allegedly) sarcastic remark was very bright either. I guess we're even.

Ahhh ... now he grasps the satire.

After the personal attack, of course, knee-jerk response and false allegation. But you are not going to get off that easily:

Viagra (and Cialis, IIRC) were approved in 2005 for Medicare and Medicaid by ...................................

Guess who?
