I just saw the trailer for The Revenant and damn it looks incredible! Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu who also did Birdman, Babel, 21 Grams, etc, and starring DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.

The Revenant trailer

Apparently it's loosely based, or inspired by, real events and frontiersman Hugh Glass's exploits.

Definitely looking forward to seeing this one.

I saw the trailer and read the description.

Trailer - everyone is shooting everyone.
Description - One man's survival, human spirit, snow, bear, aliens, stuff.

So what is this about?

P.S the wiki article is much better. If it is anything like that, it should be good (and I like dicaprio's performance).
P.P.S Although he looks silly with a beard.

Haha, yeah, just viewing the trailer leaves you kind of with "what exactly is this about?" But it impressed me and made me look up more info about it.

My thoughts exactly. When I saw the title, I first thought of the 2009 movie with David Anders. I thoroughly enjoyed that one, but I'll hold off on this one until we get a trailer that explains WTF is going on.

Love of Life?

Man in the Wilderness?

Well, at least they're going back a century to rip off material, now.

Read the thread as The Revanite and thought for a brief second one of the spin off Star Wars movies was going to be about Darth Revan. I'm sad now. :(

First movie to be filmed on the new Alexa 65. They don't even sell those cameras...you can only rent them!

Saw the trailer and my first thought was 'Meh, not much chance I'll watch it'. But then, it looks like a Western and those I tend to find very boring.

Yeah i saw this trailer yesterday. I was intrigued. Loved some of the camera work and angles used.
Yep that definitely stood out to me as well (camera work). The director also did the recent "Birdman," and while I haven't seen that I've heard it was conceived as one long shot (I'm assuming there's at least some cuts in it, though, haha). I think it's a striking way to film, since we're so used to quick shots all the time. It just makes things in the movie seem more natural and unscripted. That one-shot sequence in "Children of Men" is just awesome.

It should remind you of Man in the Wilderness, seeing as how that movie was based on the same real event.

You should if you get the chance. It was very interesting and beautifully shot.
I did actually, just recently via Netflix DVD. I liked it quite a bit (I think I gave it 8.5/10 in the Movie Review thread?) and yeah, what an example of great filmmaking. I'm looking forward to this film by Iñárritu.
