i just installed winxp on an older machine (2002)

Is there anything i can do? I once replaced some registry files on another computer...but this seems nasty...

There is one file that is about a 1gig big on the harddrive that i need really really bad. Is there anyway to figure out what is causing the problem?

help? lol?

First, use the XP cd and go to the recovery console & run chkdsk.

Second, hook the hard drive up to another computer and pull the file off.

If you had system restore enabled, it is a far superior option to retrieve the file from your system restore cache and not another computer. Why would you want the software registry hive from someone else's system?

i dont know why i asked this, i realized i repaired an old registry using chkdsk /r a while back, thanks for the response anyway, all is good!
