In case you can't be bothered to read the whole article here are some highlights:

Athlon 1100 vs. Pentium 4 (beta) 1400

Business Winstone 99 1.2
Thunderbird: 34.8
Pentium 4: 30.5

SysMark 2000
Thunderbird: 206
Pentium 4: 180

3D WB 2000
Thunderbird: 107
Pentium 4: 115

Quake 3 Normal
Thunderbird: 148.9
Pentium 4: 194.8

Doesn't look too good, does it?

I thought Q3 was bandwidth limited and not able to come up with higher frame rates?

Does anyone remember the Quake 3 Normal score from 2CPU.com? I went there to find out the exact number and look what I got:

The benchmarks have been removed at the request of Intel. Here's a snip from the email (edited of course).

Dear 2CPU.com,

I am writing to you, on behalf of Intel, to request that you please immediately remove from your website all Intel confidential information, including photographs and performance data, regarding the Pentium 4 processor known as "Willamette".... Blah, blah... Yadda, yadda...

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Attorney Man
Intel Corporation

Sorry guys (and gals), it must've been hitting a bit too close to home.

I saved a copy of The Register's page, because I'm sure Intel will go after them next.
