of the sugar?

McCormick's jamaican jerk seasoning ingridients:
sugar, allspice, salt, onion

is that why I'm turning into a diabetic?

WTF?
Yeah, I knew there was a reason I don't buy premade spice mixes.
It's bad enough they put sugar in it as the main ingredient, but where are the Scotch Bonnet peppers and Thyme?

The good news is your thread has inspired me to make a trip to the Jamaican grocery (only place I can find Scotch Bonnets) and make some Jerk chicken this weekend.

The reason why most things taste good is because of fat, and/or salt, and/or sugar.

KT

Edit: also, that does not sound like any jerk flavour I have ever tasted.

no, that's not why.

the sugar helps to cut down on the diverse spice profiles in Jerk. Some can be very sweet, though. I prefer Jerk seasonings that are savory and hot as balls, more than they are sweet/cinnamony--though that will always be a component as far as I know.

Also, McCormicks Jerk seasoning? wtf. might as well think French's mustard is representative of mustard.

For a store brand of Jerk marinade that isn't too hard to find, try Walker's/Walker Woods. whataver it is called now.

The family used to use one that our Jamaican friends would bring back from trips. Dinner was painful, as were shits for a few days. ...but it was worth it.

That's their recipe for jerk sauce? That's... not even close to correct. That's like mixing lard and toothpaste and claiming you made ketchup.

I should make jerk chicken this weekend. With mojitos made with fresh mint from my garden and fine Cuban rum. Little slice of heaven for the holiday.

How am I not surprised that a premade seasoning is filled with sugar so you plebeians will eat it. I bet you think sugary tomato paste is good too..

Jerk sauce! Love jerk seasoning but keep your jerk sauce away from my food.
