Here's the map
I decided not to post in this thread because of the overwhelming amount of anti-california crap in it.

California prices are usually 20 cents higher than the rest of the nation, but this gulf has widened in recent weeks due to two factors:

1.) Switch to summer fuel mixes.
2.) Lack of refineing capacity.

The reason why california is experiencing a gas price hike is because of the switch from winter to summer refining mixes in california refineries. California switches over before the rest of the states and it takes a while for the refineries to get up to peak output after the switch over their production 100 percent.

If it's because of refining capacity, then why does South Western Arizona have cheap gas, while the section of California immediately adjacent to that has some of the highest prices in the country?

So we're switching back to our summer blend already? Still seems like winter to me.

Its probabily because of either Taxes or Competition. If I drive 20 min (non rush hr) to Manasass gas is like 10-20 cents cheaper a gallon.

Nice double post b0mbrman ;) I have been to San Fran.....once.

Probably three weeks early - the extra money will be used to pay for all the screwups caused by DST2007 changes. :p

yeah, because the switch to summer blend always takes the companies by total surprise and the couldn't have prepared, planned, or budgeted for it in any manner. just like when they switched to winter blend. just like last year. and the year before that. and the year...

They switch blends? Why? If the winter blend is cheaper...why not use it in the summer?

Oh well, I don't care much as I left CA and am not going back.

This isn't just a flip a switch deal here.

They have to shut down to switch over and when you run @ 98% capacity it tends to hurt supply :)

The reason is because of additives and other bullcrap they have to do to the gas before it is ready for California due to our outrageous emission standards.
