When there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.

Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.

Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.

In Wasilla, a builder said he complained to Mayor Palin when the city attorney put a stop-work order on his housing project. She responded, he said, by engineering the attorney?s firing.

Last summer State Representative John Harris, the Republican speaker of the House, picked up his phone and heard Mr. Palin?s voice. The governor?s husband sounded edgy. He said he was unhappy that Mr. Harris had hired John Bitney as his chief of staff, the speaker recalled. Mr. Bitney was a high school classmate of the Palins and had worked for Ms. Palin. But she fired Mr. Bitney after learning that he had fallen in love with another longtime friend.

?I understood from the call that Todd wasn?t happy with me hiring John and he?d like to see him not there,? Mr. Harris said.

?The Palin family gets upset at personal issues,? he added. ?And at our level, they want to strike back.?

In 1997, Ms. Palin fired the longtime city attorney, Richard Deuser, after he issued the stop-work order on a home being built by Don Showers, another of her campaign supporters.

The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government. Ms. Palin appointed Mr. Bitney, her former junior high school band-mate, as her legislative director and chose another classmate, Joe Austerman, to manage the economic development office for $82,908 a year

Good Lord! I had to stop cutting and pasting! My hand was getting tired there is just so much sh*t!
I especially like:
(Palins) Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government

That's brutal, but the joke's on her. She has helped substantially to sink John's ticket. You may be able to strike somebody out at your highschool in the middle of some pissant town, but she's in the big leagues now and terribly out of her depth. The emperor has no clothes.

She's like a "little miss Dick Cheney" in this regard, but minus the brainpower. The thought of her being President is truly frightening.

How the heck does a city attorney issue a stop work order on a building project? At least around here that comes from the building inspector. The city attorney would bring a lawsuit if it was necessary to enforce the stop work order.

Can anyone find those letters written from residents the few days after her nomination warning us of this?

I remember people on the board dismissing them

BHO is from Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

If you (or BHO, for that matter) were concerned about cronyism, patronage, and corruption (political or otherwise), I'd think you'd want to look at the most machine-tied, in-the-bucket, "go along to get along" of the bunch. Pretty hard to beat Chicago, Cook County, Illinois ... and BHO is right in there with 'em.

The FBI has acknowledged that it has, by far, more agents investigating more fraud and corruption for the greatest spread of politicians here in good ol' Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

And Tony is starting to sing, this is likely to get interesting.

But, I suppose, since it's Democrat corruption it doesn't really count. Just like voter fraud doesn't count, as long as it helps the Democrat.

I wasn't aware we were voting for "good ol' Chicago, Cook County, Illinois" for President. Do you have anything in particular to say about Obama, chief?

I started a thread and posted Sept. 6th:

About Sarah Palin: A Letter From Anne Kilkenny

I failed to add my own commentary, so a mod locked the thread. I didn't realize the problem until the thread was already locked. It's an amazing read.

One thing we have learned about the right wing sycophants. The vast right wing propaganda machine can influence public opinion for short periods of time.
Its just now that people are ready to hear Ms. Hockey Mom is a Dick Cheney clone.

Funny thing this isn't even new. I've been outraged at this pick since the day I started reading about her, because stuff like this was being reported but it was drowned out in stupid shit like her daughter's pregnancy and other irrelevant items that allowed Palin to say there was a witch hunt underway in Alaska.

I knew it. Alaska. That's where the phrase cold as a witches t*t originated.

Nope, just more suggestions and associations - no real facts as usual.

The FBI has more agents investigating fraud in Cook County, population like 4 million than it does in Wasilla or for that matter Juneau Alaska?
I'm shocked.

She's corrupt, manipulative, and has enough sex appeal to distract the general public from the negatives.

Well, to begin with, the topic, or at least the sub-topic, indicate disgust with the "A distinguished record of cronyism and secrecy," which is obviously a bullshit concern given that BHO himself was created out of the political machine controlling Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He does what he is told to do (like supporting Todd / Toad / Toddler Stroeger, easily one of the biggest idiots ever spawned by the machine).

The point I apparently failed to make clear is that if the OP is so concerned about "A distinguished record of cronyism and secrecy," then he should also be even more concerned about the product of the Chicago, Cook County, Illinois machine ... nothing in Alaska could possibly compare to the criminals running the City of Chicago, County of Cook, and State of Illinois.

To wag a finger and be concerned at Palin for these activities (if they're true) and to overlook the same activities in BHO's home environment which is orders of magnitude worse (and has been for decades) would speak volumes about the hypocrisy, motivation, and intellectual dishonesty frequently associated with BHO's supporters here.

"Do you have anything in particular to say about Obama, chief?"

Yep. He's a corrupt piece of crap Chicago politician and an empty suit. He's so bad, I will have to stoop so low as to pull the lever for McCain. I am not voting for McCain, I'm voting against BHO, the Chicago, Cook County, Illinois piece of crap empty suit that has lousy judgment in choosing his friends and mentors and doesn't have enough spine to stand up for them when he's called out on it.

Particular enough Bunky?

Let me get this straight: you're saying that the corruption that Palin has actually done is meaningless compared to what you think Obama may have done just because he's from Chicago. Is that right?

I hope not, because that's is about the pathetically stupidest thing I've read here yet. We have evidence of corruption on the one hand, your circumstantial prejudice against the city of Chicago on the other, and you expect us to value your opinion over the facts?

Sorry, the real world does work that way. Unless you have EVIDENCE of corruption by Obama, and not just your silly guilt-by-association gossips, then pardon us while we ignore your obvious DUH-versions from the actual real life evidence of corruption by Palin.

It is true that Tony Resco is starting to sing, I read a long article to that effect on yahoo news, but its looks like Tony has nothing real against Obama, but it does look like an ex democratic Governor of Illinois is going to take a pasting. Because none other than Fitzgerald, the same fellow who took Libby down, is in charge. And I do not believe Fitzgerald is partisan and Fitzgerald is very slow and through in any build a case actions. Do not look for any October surprises.

Obama, as a community organizer, was a movement independent of the very corrupt Chicago machine, and any connections Obama had to that machine are more imagined than real. And any accomplishments Obama had, were despite of and not due to that same Chicago Machine.

As Mendel said, one must flower where you are planted, and amidst corruption is often the place to find the lone few with integrity. Look at Gandhi, Nelson Mendella,
Mother Thersisa, Truman, and so many others, behind their humanity was a healthy respect and pragmatism regarding the power of corrupt systems and where to throw the monkey wrench.
