I still don't understand all the hate on that fight. I didn't pay money to see it, but as with all live sporting events, they can always be boring.

I've not ever seen Mayweather fight live before, but saw some of his defensive style on youtube and I can imagine the fight was boring because his style and Pac's just didn't result in enough major punches landing. They should do a rematch and a 20 round match and see what happens. Both guys can take a punch and Pac just wasn't landing enough because of how elusive Mayweather is....the difference in reach has a lot to do with the hugging... It's been used by boxers for years when a competitor gets to close and you try to keep them in range, but out of their reach...it's a skill, not a way to cheat. I don't really care who won that fight either...just tired of hearing all the complaining over it.

Didn't watch the fight and don't really care about boxing but when a fight is only 10 or 12 rounds long it seems pretty reasonable that a fight that goes the distance is the norm. If people buy any non-heavyweight fight and expect a knockout I don't understand their mindset. They should just go back to watching MMA.

That being said, boxing has huge issues to overcome if it wants to be big again.

I just died a little inside.

And 100 million is only half his earnings from the bout. He's expected to earn another 100 million from PPV buys. And it doesn't include his sponsorship bonuses lol. He probably will come away with ~200-250 mil for that fight.

Yup, not being invested, not watching, and having never seen Mayweather are 3 perfectly good reasons for not understanding. ;)

Most of his fights are boring, the last few that I watched especially so. Manny hasn't knocked out a guy in eons. People who didn't predict this snooze fest were lying to themselves.

Some were saying this fight was going to put boxing back on the map. I'd say not only will that not happen, this fight was likely one of the final nails in the coffin -- it reminded me and people like me why I stopped watching boxing years ago. Complete snooze-fest. If I had plunked down $100 to watch that fight, I'd be very disappointed. Glad I got to see it free.

This is my (rookie) analysis also. I don't see boxing bouncing back from this.

Good boxers are not necessarily exciting boxers. That's why MMA is so popular - it is exciting even when the fighters aren't good.

My biggest peeve with boxing is there is no way to compel fighters to fight. Gotta drag them out with dollars it seems. Hard to have fan favourites when they only fight once a year.

Floyd is a defensive fighter. He has never advertised himself any other way. He plays the heel in the media to garner PPV buys. People were expecting a Hagler slugfest. That was never going to happen.

Exactly, defensive counter-puncher. Nothing wrong with the style per say but I'm not a fan of trying to win through points/judges. It's boxing, not ballet, and it's incredibly boring to watch to boot.

Anyone expecting a slugfest was a moron.

But is it worth brain damage?

Why can't boxing be more like Rocky. :(

I agree. There's a reason why Kimbo Slice became so popular. Nobody wants to see two guys play peek-a-boo for 36 minutes. We want to see 2 drunks with their hands down slugging it out.
