Ok, I'm done gloating. Registered independent, voted for Bush but, and it's a big but, I don't like the Republicans in control of the legislative & executive branches.

What can the DNC do to bring the voters back?

A couple of suggestions:

1.) Back off of gun control, after 9-11 even the uber liberals bought guns or got bigger guns for their body guards. Yes Kerry said he wasn't anti gun, but his voting record made me distrust him on this issue.

2.) Stop blocking judicial appointments of moderate judges, many of the appointments are lifetime appointments, the Judiciary must feel some freedom in those appointments.

3.) As a church going (sometimes) largely agnostic father of 2 teen daughters, I am pro choice, and if you really corner the leaders of my church (I did), they don't feel abortion is really that horrible a thing. Unwanted & abused children are a much bigger & real problem.

4.) Stop trying to be everything to everyone on the far left, granted there are votes there, but a centrist position won't scare the moderates as much as the professional protestor/anti everything crowd. I don't give a rat's ass about some protestors in NYC being herded into cages for a while so the Republicans can have a convention.

5.) Stop the partisan bickering (both sides) The Republican majority in congress needs to give pause to the antis. I suspect we'll see a conservative streak in the US for the next 10 years or so. Daschle's loss should be a serious message. South Dakota is a poor state, they didn't boot Daschle lightly, he was a powerful politician and did good things for the state, they just flushed badly needed federal projects/funds by dumping him. I'm from South Dakota, trust me they needed a powerful friend in congress.

6.) Let's commit to winning or at least stabilizing the Middle East as best we can, we owe it to them to at least fix what we broke.

7.) Don't hire Bob Shrum anymore, all he knows is how to lose an election.

Please don't view this as an "I told you so" or a "high five" thread, I've thrown some stuff out there, please don't set fire to me....

Out of the 6 options that you listed, I feel this one is quite important. It's the one that keeps me away from the Liberal party.

DNC is probably going to raise a rediculous amount of money for the mid-term races in '06.

This one is easy. How about courting the hispanic vote? Bush got 42% of the rapidly growing hispanic vote. 42%! This was the difference in Florida and cost the Dems the election. I will make a bold prediction for 2008. Either the Dems put a hispanic on the ticket or they again lose in a landslide.

How about this:

1. spend sometime telling the people how you can do things better instead of spending all the time reminding the people how the other party can't
2. stand for something
3. drop the far left wing environmentalists and communists, and look to a more moderate path, you'll get more of the population
4. stop whining about what you don't have
5. get hollywood out of your camp, while it is nice to have the money from the hollywood left, the exposure sucks because of the actors/actresses.
6. unify the country

I'm hispanic and I'd vote against my own race in a heartbeat if the candidate didn't support issues that I value.

Dems still don't get it: The problem is the message, not the messenger.

Pliable,

You know how disingenuous it is to start this kind of thread, considering you're a right-wing hack?

They need to stick to the economic issues, have a plan for the foreign policy, and not turn off too many people on social issues. Sooner or later we'll have election about the economy. Baby boomer retirement isn't going anywhere. Outsourcing isn't going anywhere either.
