I prefer them picked fresh from a pie with some ice cream. Plants have bugs, bees, etc. yuck.

We get a fairly constant supply of mulberries. Delicious but messy.

We have a few blueberry bushes but they're mostly too small at this point. Raspberries don't really do well this far South.

I got my stuff started late, so everything is still small and green.

Also, disappointed that this thread isn't about the Pi.

My red currant bush is laden this year, but the berries are still ripening. Never sure what to do with them though. Maybe put them in a mixed berry pie or jam, as they're pretty tart on their own.

Those look tasty. I have not been out blueberry picking in a long time. I used to go with my grandma, we'd come back with huge buckets full. Run into a raspberry bush once in a while, but end up eating them all. I should grab some seeds and grow some in my yard. Never even occurred to me to grow some berries. They come back every year which is nice so don't really need any maintenance. Might attract a few squirrels and chipmunks too, those are always fun to have around.

My grandmother used to have a bunch of raspberry bushes in her yard and I loved to eat them right off the bush while picking a pint or two. That is until I saw her soak the ones I picked in cold water and all the bugs, worms and dirt that came off of them.

Actually, now that you mention it, after watching a couple episodes of "monsters inside me" probably a bad idea to eat them straight from the bush like I've always done.

Some of these parasites actually lay eggs in your eye ball. D:

I think most of these things are only in the south though. I've always eaten berries straight from the bush, even the snake berries that are right on the ground.

I love em, one of my Aunts used to have a very large Black Raspberrie patch.

I'd still eat em fresh out of the 5 gallon buckets we carried around, before we went in and floated em to make preserves, cobbler, freeze em etc.

That time of the year buy the bee tree was black raspberry goodness time.

Family got together for the 4th, and I remembered I had raspberries that I grew (see related thread) so I handed the bucket to my mom and said "here, do something with these"

This was the result:

A happy 4th of July indeed! :)
