the ramblings of an old fart and the good 'ol days

i run xp home sp3, xp pro sp2 on my gaming rig, and 7 beta. i was scrounging around and found enuff stuff to build and old 98 box around my 3dfx 5500 agp card. still a magnificent beast for it's time even though an nvidia 32mg gts could kick it's ass in speed. eight years ago nothing could beat that 3dfx card in iq set at an incredibls 4x fsaa 🙂 . the original "sli" and "dual" gpu. anyway, you know the history.
I used on an old 850 duron, k7s5a mb, 13gig hd, 512 mgs of ddr ram!. i went to load up 98 on a floppy and it turns out the mb has a bad floppy controller. bummer 🙁 .
no biggie tho... just slip- streamed the floppy into the 98 folder and burned a bootable 98cd using Nero. worked like a charm. remember the original quake? how 'bout halflife? looks great in glide. of course nothing matches todays stuff but the old games are still fun. remember when you used to have the option to run games in dos? yeah, it was a bitch, but when it ran right...it was cool.
so much for my rant.
btw, treat your woman right tomorrow 😉.

Hah, I just threw away a Win98SE desktop (not a tower), with a Pentium 100, 64mb ram, 2x500mb HDs and 3dfx Voodoo2 SLI. I used to play lots of old DOS games on it till the CDROM died. I do miss having to edit config.sys and autoexec.bat

I also have a tower that has a Voodoo5 5500 AGP in it, too.

I don't have a woman. 🙁

oh, good grief! have a  instead!!! 🙂

heh, i remember that.

to me the old days was Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Wolfenstein 3D... Future Crew, Renaissance, Dr Awesome... hitting Esc twice to initiate connection (go Wildcat!) and longdistance calls to random states. i'm a relatively young whipper snapper D: i'm not cool like the C64/Amiga guys :'(

edit: oh, and also custom MSCDEX.EXE so i could use some dos CDDA ripper to encode with L3ENC 1.5 or 2.0 that someone kindly "passed on to me"

on the topic of games/options, i remember downloading a (warzed?) TSR game cheater (game wizard 32?) that was known to have a virus. cleaned it up. cheated my way thru whatever games til windows games took over...

you can keep your CLI unless i can IRC, listen to MP3s (and queue whatever i want from a huuuuuge collection), IM, somehow browse the web, encode h.264 videos, do distributed computing with spare cpu cycles .. WITH PERFECT EASE from your precious CLI! 😉

Then you wouldn't know...

January is THE biggest breakup month of all - the last chance before St. Valentine's Day rolls around.

LoL!

Here's my Valentine's present to you...

A screenie of 'my womans' Windows desktop:

You obviously don't know what you're dealing with here...

Woman are psycho-possessed demons from hell - a necessary pleasure - to be avoided at all costs!

Anyway, I'm going to bed now. Yes, I have to wear earplugs, between 'her' and her ^%$& dog snoring in the bedroom!

You're gonna have to play with yourself... 😉

EDIT: BTW, Happy St. Valentine's Day everyone!

I've kissed a few of those in my time too!
