Wow just tried sniper elite v2 in 3D @1180Mhz/5400Mem 1.205v and what an amazing experience. I have a problem though in 2D I get 1 sec flicker every once in a while at 120Hz. I don't know what's causing this! :( I have a 23" SAMSUNG S23A950D.

That's what annoyed the hell out of me with 7970 on Alienware aw2310 since launch. Kept happening with every driver I tried. No such problem with nvidia.

Well, I saw differences once my OC got high enough. It definitely benches worse in 3DMark @ 0 than +20% at 1.25v and 1260 for me. In the uk forums thread there are also people who have great OCs that are only because they are being throttled. They move up to +20 and lose stability because they were never really at the clock they thought they were due to the throttling.
I really wish we could get to the bottom of this powertune stuff. I want to know if I'm being throttled. It would make sense that I am seeing as I'm at 1240mhz at 1.3v.

How is powertune calculated?
Well, I just read this from AMD's whitepaper:

A thermal event occurs when the GPU is loaded to the point where the junction temperature exceeds a pre-determined warning value and forces the GPU into either an intermediate power state or the lowest power state. Hence, an application that triggers a thermal event will be forced to a
much lower level of performance to ensure that TDP limits are not being exceeded.

http://blogs.amd.com/work/2011/11/09/uncompromised-application-performance/

So does that mean that so long as your temps are good powertune won't interfere?

Try GPU Tweak version 2.0.6.0 and report back. Make sure you get a clean uninstall first of your current version.

I tried installing 2.0.6 again, I get black screen of death right after windows login. Ugh, I'm running Win 7 Ultimate SP1. I'm thinking it could be a firmware problem with my Crucial M4. I'm running the latest version

hmm not sure. i had immediate lockups with the newest version of gpu tweak, but on 2.0.6 everything is fine.

i also have a crucial m4 64gb but i never upgraded the firmware (0009). there was too many random issues in the firmware thread so i didn't bother.

Ran through unigine @1200/5400 1.205v and didn't notice any problem. I also set board power in Trixx to +50.

I probably received one of the worst overclockers.

I can only get to 1080 core before I start artifacting in benchmarks. I've raised voltage all the way to 1.200 and it still doesn't help.

try 1.250 V

You really think I should give it a go? If my card can't break 1080 at 1.2V I don't think 1.25V would help, not to mention it gets pretty risky.

Update: Volted at 1.25V, I got up to 1180 clock speed, max temp was 64 degrees.

Use the MSI afterburner overlay, it tells you the clockspeeds and GPU usage during gaming. Basically if you're at 20% powertune you will never be throttled, but if your clock speeds stick while gaming you aren't being throttled at all.

If you have a youtube or windows media player open in the background during gaming that can sometimes make your card use 2d clocks, so make sure to close those during gaming. Disabling aero will give you a few fps as well, as mentioned by toyota I think.

Is anyone running at 1.225v safely, and what are your temps?

Right now I'm at 1210 core and 1.2v with temps around 67 C. I'm not sure if I should push it further.

No throttling in Crysis 2 but I only peaked at 85% GPU usage.

I'll try again in some more games. Thanks for the tip.

I'm at 1150 core @ 1.250v. Temps around 70c during BF3 and fan never goes over 50%. Working great so far.

Wow, under 50 at 1.3v? You planning to 24/7 OC?
Yeah that's what I'm doing. I should probably back down to 1.225v at 1180mhz, though. It's probably not worth the risk for 60mhz extra. My temps are good though so I'm not too worried.

My temps will hit 58C in bitcoin but in games the highest I have hit is 52C. Generally they stay below 50C.

I have a Twin Turbo II cooler installed.

Is it worth it to overclock the memory? What kind of gains do you see?
The gains are quite small on the memory actually.

It's weird; in Heaven my fastest results were at 5500mhz memory, but Crysis did well at higher speeds.

I run mine at 5600mhz.
