Nehalem comes out in a couple says, so why is it so quiet still? I thought there was going to be a big x58 motherboard shootout and a core i7 overclocking guide articles here at anandtech.

I guess I'm just getting antsy.

No doubt it is being actively worked on at this time. But if past reviews of initial release hardware (as all LGA1366 boards will be) then I'm guessing Gary and Anand and the others are up to their eyeballs trying to help the mobo guys resolve bugs and instability with twice-daily beta-bios updates.

That and perhaps the fact that the reviews and benchmarks have pretty much already been released and everyone already knows what to expect. i7 will be worthwhile for some, maybe not for others.

...Imagine bells jingling.... Here comes Nehalem, here comes Nehalem, right down Nehalem lane! ........end of jingling....... Come on MONDAY! Wait, did I say that? btw Fry's posted the 920 for $300. I don't understand why no one is taking pre-orders? Well, a few have, but why not the big guys?

I wonder if demand will heavily outpace supply at launch (as happended with C2D)?

Personally I don't care as I plan for Westmere to be my first quadcore chip. I've gotten spoiled with these cool-running 65W duals and don't really want to go back to a space heater.

With the way in which the PCU shuts down cores on i7, if you buy and i7 but really only use two cores at any given time then will it be any more of a power consumer than your current dual-core?

I'm really curious about this.

Just how much can one get away with in terms of viewing their purchase of an i7 as being an expensive dual-core that has an extra 2 cores tucked away inside for use on that rare occasion where you bust out an encoder that consumes 4-8 threads?

Don't you mean 6x4GB? Slice off a good 12-18GB of that for a nice 3-6GB/s ramdrive...mmmmm ramdrive....
