so i'm building up a new Dual Core P4 and my video card fan is croaking (6600GT) so i'm tossing up the idea of going to watercooling - just from a cost perspective...

reserator plus 1 = $229 + $15 shipping - so probably around $260 shipped + tax

or

zalman 9500 ($60) + zalman VF700 ($30) - about $90 - but i do get the noise...

i'm not overclocking - it's a dual 3.4 that can run probably 4Ghz+ :)

thoughts? ideas?

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Seems to me like the Reserator is a pretty nifty piece of gear if you value quiet and simplicity over raw speed. Though from what I've read, it should be able to handle mild overclocks reasonably well also. Cost-wise, I don't see how you can make an argument for it - it's still significantly cheaper to air-cool. It's the quiet that's the selling point. It also seems nice for people (like me) that don't have a particularly large case to build a radiator into.

i hear ya... my PC is in my bedroom, about 5 feet away from the bed - i don't mind the noise, but only hearing the P/S fan is quite enticing ;)

my PC is about 1.5 feet from my bed and I have no problem sleeping through it. as long as your case fans aren't too loud (undervolted Cooler Masters are extremely quiet) and the other cooling is quiet as well, you will have no problem with the Zalmans.

If you want a bit of quiet and water at the same time, you can't beat the Reserator. Don't get me wrong, you can custom spec a high performance water-cooling system that can be very quiet, but you're going to spend hard for it.
