“NBC fumbled and the NFL lied because a performer known as M.I.A. felt it necessary to flip off millions of families. It is unfortunate that a spectacular sporting event was overshadowed once again by broadcasting the selfish acts of a desperate performer.

“Last week the NFL formally told the PTC – and the American public – that the Super Bowl halftime show would be ‘appropriate.’ Most families would agree that the middle finger aimed directly at them is not appropriate, especially during the most-watched television event of the year.

“The mechanism NBC had in place to catch this type of material completely failed, and the network cannot say it was caught off guard. It has been eight years since the Janet Jackson striptease, and both NBC and the NFL knew full well what might happen. They chose a lineup full of performers who have based their careers on shock, profanity and titillation. Instead of preventing indecent material, they enabled it. M.I.A. used a middle finger shamelessly to bring controversial attention to herself, while effectively telling an audience filled with children, ‘F– you.’

“A simple apology rings hollow after yet another slap in the face to families, especially when NBC has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court that it should be allowed to air all manner of indecent material at any time of day, even when children are watching.

“Either the NFL and NBC will take immediate steps to hold those accountable for this offensive material in front of a hundred million Americans, or they will feebly sit back and do nothing. The nation – and the PTC – is watching.”

People seriously need to calm down... just plain WOW... I can't believe anyone really gave a crap.

A truly horrific incident. Not.

I'm surprised they aren't outraged about the go daddy commercials or the male and female couches.

M.I.A is stupid what she did is stupid, but these people more so. Make a big ol stink about some non-sense, waste all that effort all your fucking energy over some stupid shit. Can't just be like "M.I.A is a stupid shit and we don't support her or anyone that works with her in the future." Going around trying to get "vengeance" seeking punishment. please.

right moment? why aren't they bitching about the sexually driven fiat commercial? how about the nuclear holocaust in the chevy commercial? tool bags.

PTC = overly anal busybodies

Until the media companies and the FCC decide to stop paying attention to them they will continue in their effort to "sanitize" television for "the children".

I remember reading somewhere that the PTC is responsible for more than 90% of the complaints about indecency that the FCC receives, its ridiculous that they have such a large voice.

You mean someone actually watched the halftime show? That's pretty pathetic in itself. Giving a damn about a performer flipping the bird? who cares?

Madonna was actually quite entertaining. Pretty hot looking woman, especially considering her age. She works hard to keep herself that fit. She did not stop moving the entire halftime show.

Madonna - I remember her. Wasn't she a marginally interesting singer, 25 years ago?

PTC just needs to be ignored already. It's a tiny minority that just bitches incessantly. If it offends you that much, there's a power button on the TV.

The thing is, MIA knew the rules before she went on the air, then she decided to break the rules. Punishments now have to be handed out for it.

We can discuss if the rules should be there or not, but since they are there they need to be followed until they are changed.

It's perfectly clear American Media Companies cannot police themselves and should be taken over by the Government.

The outrage of the American public doesn't seem to match the rhetoric of PTC's statement. My impression is that PTC is using this minor incident as an opportunity for a fundraising drive more than anything else.

I don't care about the PTC, or anyone's crusade against "indecency" on TV, and I certainly don't want more policing by the FCC, but who the fuck does this MIA woman think she is, flipping off the whole country on the half time show, on purpose? Did she have some motive here, like it matched up with the lyrics somehow? Or is she just a dumb attention whore?

I thought they were being ignored pretty well until someone posted about them. I hadn't heard about their "outrage", and I hadn't cared to look into it either.

I'll go with "dumb attention whore".

My guess is that and now the PTC is doing their version of attention whoring. They have every right to do what they do but the rational thing for the FCC to do is to just ignore the media hype and the whole thing will die down in a day or 2.

The most amusing thing is that these complaints and attention given to the incident are exactly what the performers want.

Especially when it's tool bags like these that actually put more people on the performers side (kind of like an enemy of my enemy is my friend deal).

If they'd just STFU already and ignore this shit no one would have any incentive to do it.

Why didn't the PTC get their panties in a bunch when Nancy Grace had a nip slip on DWTS?

Does DWTS have the same delay built into the show like the NFL has, or is it fully live? Also, there is a difference between purposefully doing something and accidently doing something...aside from the fact that no one (including Nancy herself) wanted the slip to happen.

I agree. These guys have way too much time on their hands.

On the other hand, if I were the NFL, I would be pissed and I'd probably start making performers sign contracts stating that if something like this happens, they forfeit their compensation.

Maybe because DWTS is not a show kids typically watch? Also I suspect that they view the massive publicity generated by the huge audience a Superbowl draws to be a great way to focus the spotlight on what they consider important and the news media plays right into it. Not defending them but it is easy to understand why they would jump on this.

srsly who cares

i have never understood this question when it is asked. is it to difficult for you to know that people do care about this issue? or is your stance, "hey i dont care about it, so neither should you"
