They usually make you open the box. I had to do it with my games.

It was the same guy. I told him I wanted to trade the ps3 in for the xbox 360, and I wanted to buy the ps3 back afterwards. He looked at me funny, said "it's your money" and proceeded to bend over.

So how exactly does Game Crazy still stay in business when they are practically giving money away to customers?

Because it is a special that is (very cleverly) subsidized by Microsoft.

Just like the Google Checkout setup. People who assumed they're "screwing Google" just don't understand business.

that said, BB doesn't charge a restocking fee anyway.

oh, I also got a bunch of coupons for buying a new console. 12 free game rentals and a bunch of other stuff

Besides point, but BB does have a restocking fee.

Game Crazy rocks, I love that place.

We took my son's SP and a few games (three crappy ones IIRC) in to trade towards a DS Lite. I assumed they'd give us crap in credit and we'd owe a good deal towards the new stuff. Hell no. We walked out with a DS Lite, three new DS games, a sh1t load of coupons, a platinum "Game Crazy" membership/benefits card, a few magazine subscriptions and some screen protectors with $3 store credit LEFT OVER.

We were very happy and have since taken all of our business there.

We had tried Blockbuster first and they didn't come close to offering us HALF of what Game Crazy did.

This includes ps3 consoles. So they gave me $750 in credit for the 60gb ps3 console. I bought the 360 with it, and was left with $350 in store credit. I used the store credit + $230 to buy back my ps3 console.

I'll return the ps3 to best buy tomorrow.

Who's the big winner today?

Where's the goddamn :bowrofl: icon when you need it?

So with tax that means the Xbox360 costs you ROUGHLY $220-230 ? When the original price is $400?

If you read closer, you will see a few other things.

a) The deal is advertised as ending on the 8th
b) most stores will still honor the deal, but only if you have the ad
c) some stores are still honoring it even if you don't.

I've already called my local gamecrazy, and as I said - I'm heading over there in roughly 3 hours. I suggest anyone who is interested to get on their site, store locator, and call

No, it appears that he lives in a state with no sales tax: "So they gave me $750 in credit for the 60gb ps3 console. I bought the 360 with it, and was left with $350 in store credit." (750 - 400 = 350). Since he paid $230 to get the PS3 back, apparantly they're selling them used for $580 ($230+$350).

If you live in a state with sales tax, you have to add tax on $980. Here in NJ that's about $70, for a total cost of $300 after tax. Compared to $300+tax on $400 =$328 that Microcenter was selling them for last month. Still a good deal, but not a smoking deal if you live in a state with high sales tax (basically add $230 + tax on $580 to get a price that is comparable to before tax prices at other stores).

I think I'll still wait for a hardware revision that fixes the heat issues before I buy one.

Just so you know, the next time a corporation screws you over, your cries will bring a smile to my face.

Are most people buying PS3's from other places or from the same Game Crazy store? I know it shouldn't make a difference, but I am just curious.

I don't think the OP factored in sales tax in the math. With the sales tax added, this deal isn't too hot. I did the math factoring in local sales tax in San Jose, CA and it comes out to roughly $332 for the Xbox 360. Micro Center's $100 rebate on the Xbox 360 is a better deal and there's no hassles involved.

correct, I did not factor in the tax.

The total outlay was $230 + tax, or $246.xx

since we're factoring in other stuff, I also recieved a free xbox game, 12 free movie/game rentals w/ no restrictions, and a bunch of video game/accessories coupons w/ purchase.

I fail to see how the Microcenter deal is better. At best you would break even with the micro center deal, if you applied for their credit card - but then you don't get all the other freebies that come with it.

That said, the deal is officially over. I actually did it one more time today before returning the ps3, but the guyat game crazy had to manually enter everything because the sale ended last night. This time I did it in chicago, where the tax rate is much higher, and the total cost was $250ish.

Anyone who gets in on the deal now is extremely lucky.
