EDIT: NOT CNN, news.com

<< The Protect Children from Video Game Sex and Violence Act of 2002, introduced by Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., would apply to games that feature decapitation, amputation, killing of humans with lethal weapons or through hand-to-hand combat, rape, car-jackings, aggravated assault and other violent felonies. Twenty-one other representatives co-sponsored the bill, which was referred to the House Judiciary Committee. >>

I still don't understand what these acts will do...

I played with doom when i was like 8 years old, and i turned out ok (/starts fapping with a shotgun)

it's simple. Those representatives understand that people no longer want to take responsibility for their children. It is SOOOO much easier to blame video games rather than no parental guidance because both work. :disgust:

ROFL!

Well, I've played violent video games since I was 10 years old. I haven't turned into a socially inept baby murder-rapist like half of these dimwitted old farts think video games do to kids. This is purely a parenting issue, educate the parents on video games and violence and leave it up to the parent's to regulate what their kids play on the computer. The government definitely doesn't need to be pulling this bs.

So, now that parents are too incompetent to raise their own children, the government does it for them. That seems awfully communist to me.

This is complete bullcrap. Everyone grows up playing voilent video games. It doesnt make them into killers or car jackers. Why must everything be linked to voilent video games or movies.

Hmmm...this isn't interesting yet. Let's get some people who hate video games in here and have some "fun" discussion using references online :D

How soon do we end up like Australia, where GTA3 was banned even for adults?

Bingo. That's what it all boils down to: bad parenting. You gotta love the "not me" attitude of society today.

Because if we didn't then we would have to make people responsibleand that just doesn't make sense.

why take responsibility for our own actions as parents when we can blame society and video games?

i say we nerds band together and make a game called "Counter-Politician", i'll make the maps for it :)

what about people in the days of frogger and that game where you shoot enemy spacecraft? that frog gets hit by a car! how is that not violent! games of today are only different in that they promote you to be smart (by the desire to make your own mod, make your own maps, write your own C/C++ plugins) and they are very elaberate and detaled down to the very last drop of cranial shrapnel.......hey skulls can make shrapnel if you blow them up big enough :D

Its not that people don't want to take responsibility for their children, its that they are afraid of the parents who DON'T take responsibility. So, they try to control these errant parents with laws like these, imo.

huh? it's not like errant parents make these video games. if they are worried about their child playing these games at somebody else's house, maybe they should supervise the children.

i see it like this:
-the old generation would go out and kill a deer and thing nothing of it
-the old generation had a mother at home to take care of them
-the old generation would get slapped if they stepped out of line
the old generation turned out fine

-the new generation plays games about killing stuff
-new generation MIGHT have a parent at home because both parents were led to believe they can "have it all"
-new generation lets their kids do whatever the hell they want
the new generation is screwed.

well this is the end of western civilization as we know it, we will turn into the north america of laziness, no productivity and rampant crimes........much like south america actually.
