Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
Just got this game yesterday and played it about half a dozen times. Only really have experience with playing four players (my wife, 7 year old daughter, 9 year old son, and me) but have watched my kids play the single player.
Overall, this game is really lacking and could have been about 100x better. From someone that grew up watching the Price is Right and enjoyed watching the show those days I was home sick from school, this game really is an injustice. I would expect to pay ten bux for this game on Xbox live arcade download, not $37!
Here are some observations that lead me to judge this game to be two stars or less:
1) Only allows you to use ONE controller. A four player game, one controller. It took us about 5 minutes to figure out that our other controllers didn't have dead batteries. We keep pressing the buttons and they would turn off. We changed the batteries, same thing. Had to go into the controller menu to see they were 4 bars full. Looked on the back of the package to confirm it WAS a 4 player game. Finally realized you all have to use the same controller. How dumb in this day and age?
2) A lot of the prizes and products you are price guessing are tiny avi movies that take up about 1/9th of the tv screen. REALLY? We could barely tell what the heck we were bidding on and we have a 65" television! Any reason these movies couldnt be full or even half screen?
3) Kind of a petty complaint but there is no excuse for the lack of effort from the designers: most of the cars are 2006. Nothing like hearing "a chance to win a NEW car... a 2006 Lincoln town car". And it isnt like they DONT have 2009 because on one game I got a 2009 Corolla and my wife got a 2006 Ford Focus. What reason is there that all 2008/2009 cars couldnt be used?
4) The games are good. I would say better than average execution. But doesn't really save the game. My major complaint is that when playing some of the pricing games, it doesnt really tell you the CORRECT price. Which is aggrevating. So if you say something costs $20 on the cliffhanger game, it just says you are wrong and falls off the cliff but doesnt let you know the correct price. Just bad programming.
5) The WHEEL. OMG. So many things wrong. First off, it makes you hold the A button and pull UP on the controller. In the least it should be an intuitive down motion. That's just irksome. But anyone a fan of the show knows you push up, then pull down hard. It would be easy to program that motion into the game, but nope. Failure.
6) Ok, the Wheel again. One of the biggest parts of the PRICE IS RIGHT. They totally messed up the second place position. I dont know if it's a bug but it happens every time. No matter WHAT numbers everyone gets (other than top spin) there is a spin off for second place. For instance, spinner one gets 80, spinner two spins twice for 95, spinner three gets 60 after 2 spins, and forth spinner goes over a dollar and busts. The top spinner is spinner two and automatically goes to the showcase. Now, everyone knows spinner one should go to the showcase as number two. But EVERYONE does an one spin spinoff. Even the person that bust. I know there are two wheel spins on the show, but it should either be the top two spinners not over a dollar go to the showcase, or the other three do another wheel spin (with two spins again) not a spinoff with only one spin.
7) The showcase is three small screens like I complained before. Like they couldnt make it full screen or half screen for each? And when you are making your bid, you cant go back to the prizes (see them again). Just real poor execution.
I definitely am upset at paying forty clams for this poor excuse for PRICE IS RIGHT. Way too high a price. Only thing I can say positive is thank good Drew Carey isnt on it. That would drop this down to an ONE star rating.
