Very well written, short article by historian in today's New York Times.

This will penetrate the NYTimes paywall for 14 days, i.e. until April 14, 2025:

Trump Cannot Win His War on History

By David W. Blight, president of the Organization of American Historians and a professor of history at Yale University.

Why are so many white people so scared to talk about racism?

I remember Alan Watts saying that racism is a difficult, thorny problem. He, at least then, did not elaborate.

Every real issue is difficult and thorny because they all are created by the denial of self hate. The answer is so simple and the last thing anybody wants to see, hence the difficulty.

Racism is projected self hate Projection is a way to safely experience hatred in the form of hatred of others on whom you can project everything that you were ever told was wrong with you and if you ever dared express you'd be beaten to death verbally if not physically but the latter should never be ruled out. You will see many a Mom or Dad kill their kids rather than face what failures they were as parents. Many a male will kill his whole family because they evidenced disrespect, infidelity, divorce, etc.

Just imagine, what would you be without a shiny ego and a pillar in the community.

And you can't have history saying bad things about you. Maintaining the illusion is everything.
