The Power Switch on my ATX Case turns my PC ON, but not OFF!! Is this normal?

Just want to make sure the switch isn't damaged. The Motherboard is an ASUS A7V133, with an Enermax 330W PSU.

I am upgrading from an old P166Mhz AT system so I just want to know if this is supposed to happen.

Thanks :)

Check your bios you should have control over how it works. Try holding it in for 4-5seconds, that is the normal default setting.

No, just my first time with an ATX system, just want to know out of interest. The switch is important if the system totally crashes and locks up too.

for either of those scenarios I would use the reset switch as opposed to the power switch!

Of course. THat is most logical. With most mobo's you have to hold it 5 seconds..I just turn my kensington off..

BTW in your BIOS is is an option that says "Power Button < 4 seconds" which can be set to Soft Off or Suspend... anything over 4 seconds is always Off.

Thanks!

With my AT system I had to physically press the Power Switch to turn the PC off when the "its now safe to turn off your pc" screen appeared. Didn't realise that this wasn't necessary with ATX.

Thanks for humaring me! :)
