Go quality. I have a Fortron 350W that only costs $38. and is one of the best.

IMO the Extremo Power 550W PSU ($13.00) in your 1st link has about as much chance of being any good as a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest...

Don't skimp on the PSU. One gets what one pays for. Stick with a good brand. (Antec, Enermax, Sparkle, etc.)

Agreed.. won't be that when the system is struggling to keep the rails at a constant voltage or your computer blows up! Well maybe the last is a bit over the top but you get what I mean!

The cheap one has "usable" output or "max combined output of 5v & 3.3v" probably equivalent to a 300W "standard" PSU. Remember back then you saw they had 500W PC speakers that just totally crappy bcuz they were like 5W RMS and badly contructed.
The PSU is the same thing. In additions, expensive ones have better response time to voltage fluctuation and low ripple voltage. Better circuit protection.
Read more on PSU reviews, you'll get the idea. Very interesting, indeed.

According to Alan's power supply reivew, the most important parameter for P4 and AMD are +12v, check
their output at +12v. For 500w+ psu, generally the output should be > 20A, if not or the manufacturer is even not dare to list this
parameter, simply skip it.

Why are you looking at a 550W power supply anyway. If it is going into your current machine a clean 350W from a solid PS like an Antec will be all you need and run you about $40.
