The Power Supply from HELL(DELL)

Paul Ma

Senior member
I have a Dell 435MT and I can not for the life of me get the power supply out (it burned out) without taking out the motherboard first. There doesn't appear to be enough clearance to pass the metal strip on top, but the Dell support pdf makes it sound like a piece of cake.

Anything I am doing wrong?

I think you have two options here:

1) Looks like the optical drive is out...pull the front bezel, remove the bay covers, and replace thru the front.

2) Pull the HSF. If it's like the Dell box I disassembled last year, there's no thermal paste or anything like that to deal with...just reattach the HSF after replacing the PSU.

I finally gave up and removed the HSF which wasn't a big deal at all and will be easy to reattach after I get my replacement ps. There is some paste residue but I will just clean and reapply some arctic silver. Thanks for the idea.
