The Postman (movie)

I am aware that the general consensus on this movie is that it blows. And I know that Kevin Costner tends to get tons of flak for his roles. But I've never seen this movie, and for some reason I feel slightly intriguied by it. So for those that have actually seen it, why is it bad (if that's what you feel)... or, why is it good?

It may be the cheesiest, sappiest, most cliche filled movie I have ever seen; that's not even including Tom Petty playing himself

I watched 30 minutes of it, and it ties for the most boring garbage i have ever seen with the planet of the apes remake. Stay away!

Usually people say the book was better, and in this case it was - sort of.

The first half of the book was better than the first half of the movie . . . but the second half of the book diverged big time.

The second half of the movie was great, but the ending was a stupid re-imagining of the way the book ended. They should have kept a few more of the novel's elements in it, and it would have been a superior flick.

I hated the fact that they never told you the Postman's name, either. His name was Gordon in the book.

It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Anyone who thinks this movie has a SINGLE REDEEMING FEATURE is criminally retarded and should be sterilized as not to have children who will obviously have the IQ of a narwhale.

YOU WANT A WAR, POSTMAN!?!? I'LL GIVE YOU......A WAR!!!

*hurl*

ouch - harsh! X-Man, looks like you're on your own on this. I've never heard of such vile reviews. ... ... ... kind of makes me want to see it more. Odd. 😀

LMAO hey that was Pettys best role to date! I still liike the whole concept of naming my kid after a car dealership....thats about all i got out of the movie though 😛

ok. I'm probably one of the few ATers who doesn't think he knows everything, doesn't agree with everythign he hears from people who read Slashdot, and can actually be objective when reviewing a movie. I actually managed to sit through this entire movie and it wasn't great. But it's not like it's the worst movie of all time, or even close.

First off, the movie is long. It's like they took 3 normal length movies and put them back to back. Let's just say they told too much story. Second, the movie is a slow moving drama. This is one of those movies that has not heard of the concept of action. So for your average ATer, there's too much thought and too much required of an attention span to keep track of it. It was an interesting take on the post-apocolyptic America concept. If you choose to see it, go in to it with an open mind. You may actually like this movie a bit. I highly doubt you'll consider it a landmark movie, but it's better than alot of the crap I've seen people praise.

i saw it once. i actually kinda liked it. i went into it knowing how criticized it was but actually thought it told a good story.

i would never watch it again mind you....saw a brief glimpse of it on tv the other week but turned it off.

guess i'm tired of kevin costner acting in "i save the world in the terrible future" type stories over and over again. but for a fleeting moment, after seeing it, i felt like telling kevin himself "you know, that was actually a pretty good movie"

Oh geeeez,

c'mon people - it was not THAT bad.

It is watchable. It's not like MOULON ROUGE bad or anything (worst freakin POS movie my wife ever conned me into watching!!!!!!)

i thought it was typical of the genre. and i HATE kevin Costner, but the movie was ok for what it was.

NO. Moulon Rouge was like watching Die Hard compared to Chicago. Chicago is the worst POS.

i watched MR and liked it 😀

I think the people here are a bunch of morons who don't know how to rate movies. I liked it, don't know why, just thought it came together well. I like Kevin Costner.

I tried to like it, being a fan of post-apocalyptic stuff and kostner, but I couldn't.
Minor spoilers that won't spoil anything:
Second to last scene: kostner riding a horse fast leaning over and swiping a letter out of a little boy's hand, shown in slo-mo.
Last scene: in the future, the unveiling of a statue of that same thing happening, while some guy weeps and in a weepy voice says "That was me".
That's the cheesiest thing ever to happen in any movie I have ever seen.
