That's a rich mans A/C.

The generator cost $500 and the A/C $200-500. It would have been cheaper, easier, and more efficant to fix or install a coventional automotive airconditioner.

I'd love to see the code they used to make the scanner do that. :)

That's not a poor man's ipod - that's a poor man's synth.

And the A/C - the window shaker will not keep the cabin of a motorcar cool. Perhaps on a cloudy day. Auto A/C units are approx 60k btu/h.

how is a scanner capable of producing all those different tones?

The stepper motor driver can be sent signals of varying frequency that will cause it to oscillate producing corresponding tones.

The true poor man's AC I saw a while back on some forum. A guy ran metal tubing in a coil around a fan, filled a big bucket with ice water, and then had a tube at the end draining out his window to slightly below where the bucket stood. Bascially the fan would blow on the chilled pipes and cool his room. Gravity would take ice water from the bucket through the metal coil then out the window.

link to page with source. Seems that it's specific to the Scanjet 4p and 4c.

Nice. Most of the inkjet printers could do this. This gives me an idea.
