The political spectrum is not linear; it's circular.

I'm more convinced than ever that people who are far to the left and people who are far to the right have more commonalities than differences.

Our English teacher was giving us a brief lecture on politics and the history of politics and said a similar thing, that the far left and far right are not as far apart as their names might suggest in ideologies.

in pure ideology, they are quite different. but in practical terms, it would be hard to argue that fascist italy/germany were very different from soviet russia...

The way they percieve their aims is different, but the end results are similar.

To the extremists, though, there's an apparent world of difference.

I think it's sad when the fight itself becomes more important than what you're supposed to be fighting for. That's modern-day politics in a nutshell.

You are exactly right. Both are extremely controlling and elitist. Both are so close to totalitarianism/authoritarianism, it isn't funny.

hehehe, yeah, but don't think that they're all bad :) I'm so far to the Right, I'm left :Q err, I'm so far to the Left, I'm right  well fvck it, I'm all over the place, INCLUDING the center sometimes! :D

I know I must really mess with people's heads, being an Environmentalist Peacenik Libertarian Anti-Feminist Death-Penalty Supporter :p

but seriously though, I see it as being more of a plane than a line or a circle. The X-axis = freedom of the economic system and the Y-axis = freedom of the political system. Sort of as a way from differentiating a Capitalist Dictatorship from a Communist Dictatorship from a Communist Democracy from a Capitalist Democracy. (these would be each of the 4 quadrants in the plane) (and I know that some of those have never existed, but they should be possible :))
