this is the kind of resolution i like to hear about

It's better than just buying new computer parts -- mobo, CPU, etc. -- in a panic. I'm more worried about the new NAS drives proving reliable now. If they don't, that's the sort of problem everybody has, even among those who would -- almost practically! -- retire an old NVidia-based motherboard.

It's just interesting how we go to one new standard after another, there are corporate feuds, older technology is left with spotty support. So there are driver conflicts, bus contention.

Amazing that I would just have to "add something" -- a PCI-E card -- without any material change in the other parts -- and this problem would just "go away."
