i'm wondering what the slim rubber/fiber plastic part on the doors on certain cars are called. i think it's suppose to serve as protection from other car doors hitting yours. take a look at the picture provided, the part im talking about is circled in blue.

and furthermore i was wondering, can it be replaced, after being scratched up too many times. and can it be replaced at home, or must one take it to a dealer and so forth...and how much does one of those costs?

thanks in advance for any feedback!

Trim? Molding? Flappy Thing? Held on with adhesive - with a little care and a hairdryer you should be able to do it yourself. no idea the cost.

I know nothing about hondas, but I'm sure someone here who frequents a honda forum will show up shortly with a link to said forum. It's likely the dealer can order the part, but if you find a good forum, you will probably be able to search for a place that will sell it quite a bit cheaper than the stealership. Also, might find a writeup with pics too.

Edit: oh, and if the molding is in good shape but is just discolored, you might look for a product called "forever black" - assuming the original color was black, of course..

I know that there are outfits that will put the trim on for you. I have done that on every car I've had since I discovered it could be done.

LOL

Sorry, I've been in the used car business - the plastic is used to hide rust spots and other non desireable looking stuff along the edges of doors. It wasnt designed per se to prevent door dings, but I guess they could do that as well. When detaling out a car, there's usually some paint chips and spots that need touching up from daily use/abuse and the easist way to hide it is to slap the molding on.

It's called "jackasses who kick open their car door in tight parking garage/lot" guard.

Um. no - it's called side body molding, and it's applied to the widest part of the body because that area is most liekly to get hit by doors, rabid shopping carts, etc. it doesn't stop all impacts, but a large amount of them it will.

...meaning you used to steal cars?:p

Those things are useless to prevent door dings, since car doors are all too different and they are never at the right height.

hmm this sucks, it looks like the sites only provides those body side moldings (thanks bloedow for giving the correct term) to coupes, and they're not available for the sedan.

i'm only looking for the moldings for the 2 front doors, arent the front door the same for both models?

Yes, they're called side moldings and yes they are dealer only. You can get aftermarket ones (OE style) but chances are they won't look as good (cheap plastic). They're about $50 each from a dealer for the longer peices. They're held on by a combo of clips/screws/adhesive.

i will consider investing in some in the future if needed. hopefully the price for it will drop down as well :)
