The pictures do not help.

# 2 shows the power cord when it says to connect the coax cable

# 3 shows the coax and power when it says to connect power and ethernet (but does not indicate where the power should connect)

Not sure what you're looking to figure out but this pic is of the actual back and I think it's pretty clear from that alone what goes where.

Also, I have the same model and can confirm that's it, there's only a power, ethernet and coax port on the back and nothing else.

They should have used something like this.

Picture as posted at Amazon.com would confuse first time self installers or old folks not familiar with cable modems, etc. :hmm:

Those instructions look fine to me. Obviously the coax is the single pronged cable with the thin plug, the power is the double pronged thick plug, and the ethernet is the single pronged medium plug. #2 has the coax as it says in the instructions, and #3 has ethernet and power as the instructions say. What's the problem?

Cat5 and USB at the same time? ...to the same computer?

...and most people won't find a NIC socket at the expansion slots.

Fig 2 shows a DC power cord going to the power connector, but the text says to connect the coax. Some people don't know what a "coaxial" cable is, so the picture will only confuse them.

Fig 3 says to connect power + ethernet. It doesn't show ethernet. It shows coax and power. It doesn't clarify where the power connects and doesn't show what ethernet is. If I chose the picture to go with the words for step 3, I'd make sure it had the outline of an RJ-45 socket.

I can see that being confusing to a noob Then again most noobs are not even going to look at the picture and just call you to ask them for help because they can't figure it out.

You're assuming that the position of the wires on the diagram is meant to identify which port they go into. I think they are just showing some wires next to a picture of the bottom of the modem and assuming that you will know what they are talking about. I will admit that makes the pictures useless though. If they aren't going to do any better than that, why include pictures at all?

Anyone who has ever taken a technical writing class knows that the image is complete fail. It has nothing to do with how simple or obvious the actual operation is. The pictures are useless and, as stated, do not help one bit. I once worked at the facility where that modem and the box were made. I wish I could go back and slap the guy.

you don't even need to take a class to know that. those images are completely unhelpful. whether or not you need the help is not the subject.
