I think the quickest and most powerful step we could take to reduce gun violence is to end the war on drugs. This lucrative black market is very violent and leads to a large percentage of our gun murders in America, either by direct effects (such as drug/gang violence), or secondary effects such as turning non-violent drug offenders violent in prison and then releasing them into communities where they commit violence, or tertiary effects such as being raised within a violent community filled with drug gangs and violent drug offenders.

By no means is this a perfect solution, but I think it would lead to a large and almost immediate reduction in gun violence. I don't see this as a final step, but it would be a great first step.

There should be legal accountability for these actions similar to any other preventable accidental deaths. Storing your ibuprofen and Tide pods more securely than a loaded handgun is insanity.

Lots of people are just remarkably careless with firearms either when carrying, handling, or storing them in the home.

Yeah, it's just crazy how careless some people are with guns. Treating them like toys, or overly focused on the incredible rare "need it loaded in the nightstand to shoot the burglar" meanwhile creating a more dangerous situation of an unsecured firearm in the home.

My local range has pretty strict rules for handling when you want to shoot, gets some complaints, but reason they are there is because there are too many careless dickheads that put people in danger with their stupidity.
