Take the DFI Ultra UT Expert, throw in the passive cooling from the ASUS A8N32-SLI and then dust with the VIA 1394b firewire controller and Creative "Live" sound chip...now that would be worth the money...

If ya do, tell me quick cause my chip arrived and I still don't have a replacement for my bad ASUS A8R-MVP.

Does this meet your requirements?

almost passive, via 1394, and audigy chipset

They moved the chipset fan to the top of the heatpipe, but with the right CPU heatsink, it might work passively.

I'm waiting for reviews of the RD580 boards...if they ever get here.

Edit: I think the firewire is 'a' spec. How bout 1 outa 3 :)

Actually that is the board I'm currently looking at. I'm down to the DFI Expert, ASUS A8N32-SLI or the MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum.

Because 1394b expansion cards and far superior Audigy 2 cards are available, and these are just PCI bus devices wired to the motherboard, anyway?

These are good points, but with the unavailability of extra PCI slots...most boards only offer room for one or two cards at the max...hence the need for better on-board accessories. For those who use wireless, such as myself, most boards give me one more slot and that is it. I have still not found any items that use the smaller 1x or 4x special pci slots.
