I just got a new system with a generic POS case. It's a 1.2ghz T-bird, asus a7v 1hd so far, etc.. blah blah..

Cpu and mb run pretty hot (cpu-60c/board-35c)

and in probably a month I'm upgrading from the 5400rpm ide drive to two ultra160 scsi drives @ 15000rpm..

Before I do that though, I'd like to put my gear in a new case, one that has a good amount of fans and good cooling config - and something "sturdy" or thickish to hopefully cut down on some of the sound [as I've got a GW FOP-38 scheduled to arrive thursday]..

Reason for my wanting all these fabulous things in the case is I'm not very handy and I'm kinda lazy.. So instead of having pieces of foam and dynomat hanging out all over the place and odd mis-shapen holes I've clumsily cut myself - I'd like to get an "awesome" pre-made case if possible. Can you all recommend one?

Thanks :)

The Fong Kai FK-320 has been approved by IBM for 15,000rpm Hard drives so definitely check that baby out - great cooling and lots of room. The Antec SX1030 is also a great choice. If you're worried about heat build up, you might wanna look into a professional server case - it will cost you a lot but will offer the best cooling solution.

Hmm..I have a LiteOn FS-020 case, and i can say that it is the coolest case of all my friends. spots for 3 120mm fans 92 exhaust, 1 intake) and plenty of room for airflow on the sides...it's not a GHz+ processor, but the 300A celeron that i have running at 504/127 has NEVER gone above 32C.

Check out the Antec SX830 or SX1030 I can not say enough good about these cases they are roomy well made and have excelent cooling and come with a good power supply. Becides all that I like the way they look. When I first saw pictures of them I didn't like their looks but once I got one my opinion changed. They look and function great

hmm, you do realize how loud the FOP38 is, right? Think of a hair dryer inside your computer! No case, unless it had some sound deadening material lined inside of it, will reduce the noise of a FOP38 all that much.

As for cases, my Enlight 7237 stays 1 or 2 degrees above room temperature with minimal case cooling and a P3-700 @ 980 w/ Golden Orb. Then again, roughly 75% of the population here seems to be running SX830's or SX1030's so that will probably be the bulk of suggestions you'll get.

Another vote for the antec 830 or 1030. Offers great cooling, and I prefer its build quility over my old enlight. But you can't really go wrong with any of the mentioned cases. Really depends on what kind of stuff you'll be doing with the case. If you're gonna mod it, how many devices you're gonna put in it, if size is an issue, etc. Well hope this helps a little, good luck.

heheh.. yeah, I've been reading that :D ah well maybe a new case and some experimentation with sound dampening stuff is in order.

The Antec SX830 looks pretty sweet for my needs with the 4 fans... now all I've gotta do is find a reputable seller who's got it in stock ;)

Doods! this is the best price I have ever seen for this case!

$74.00 at the link below

Emscomputing.com

and its instock! says they have 38 of them!

shipping might be pricey though.

found it on pricewatch by searching for sx830!

there could be better deals there! lowest is $73 but shipping is like 27 bucks!

Insomnium -

I read a detailed review of the Fong Kai 320 on Ars Technica. It does indeed look like a nice case. It's about the right size for my space -- a full tower would require some reconstruction I'd rather not do. I like the idea of being able to slap a AMD 760MP dualie mobo in there when they come out and come down, together with the price of DDR.

But it doesn't have enough external bays. Its a 3/1/3. I want the Fong Kai, only recut into a 4/2/3. There should be enough room inside that baby to manage those extra two bays rather easily. So what case is just like the FK 320 -- but with the two more drive bays I crave? Anybody??

Any recs? The Global Win 801 is a 3/2/4 case at 18" high. Said to have good cooling but I bet it would be a bit cramped with a dual. And AMK in Vancouver has a "Lan Party" case which is a 4/2/3 @18" high. Which sounds good drive bay wise for me. But it also looks pretty cramped. Why can't they get together with Fong Kai. Also don't know how well it intrinsically cools. Although they sure are willing to drill a lot of fan holes in the thing for you.
