From what I've seen so far, it appears to be your standard Hollywood 'anti-US involvement in Vietnam' depiction of the 'facts', which by no coincidence out-number either 'neutral' or 'pro-US involvement' depictions by an order of about 20 : 1.

IOW, standard leftist stuff.
