I enjoy writing descriptive paragraphs, so I thought I'd write a piece on performance driving for my english class.
Here goes:
The Passion Of Driving
By Anooj Shah
Turn the key and the beast comes alive with a throaty growl. Press the accelerator slightly and the beast howls. Delicately feather the clutch and accelerator pedals as you put the gear shifter into first gear. The car lurches forward. Slowly you move towards the start line. You close your eyes for a second and take a deep breath, knowing that you are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
The green flag waves and your off! The adrenaline rushes through your body as you stomp on the accelerator pedal and the raw power that the beast generates pins you to your seat. You can?t do anything but hang on because the beast is taking over. You suddenly regain control as a turn looms up ahead. You take the outside line and sweep into the turn, the back end of the car squealing as the tires lose traction. You counter-steer to straighten the car out. Now it?s just you, the car, and a straight patch of smooth tarmac! The beast revs up, and you slam the shifter into second gear. The car jerks and your velocity increases rapidly. The grass just flies by and you are doing everything in your power to stay in control. Your wrists tighten their grip on the steering wheel; you know that the slightest movement on the wheel could result in your death.
Another turn looms ahead; it?s a hairpin. You anticipate the turn by braking hard and downshifting a gear as you reach the apex of the hairpin. The needle on the tachometer flies towards the redline and the beast wails like a banshee. The tires break loose and the car?s rear-end comes out towards the front, the momentum of it allows the car to complete the turn. Finally you straighten out the car by counter-steering and applying more throttle. Guiding a car around a corner is a graceful exhibition of art. It must be practiced in order to get it right. Once the turn is completed and the car is in full control, the finish line looms up ahead. You slam the gear shifter into fourth and watch your speed rise once again. So close to the finish line that you can taste the victory. Bing! A sign that says ?Game Over? takes over the screen! You ran out of time! You curse and put in more quarters into the arcade and try to complete the race once again.
Let me know what you think.
