The owner of my local computer store is a moron...

i went in there today(a local mom and pop type joint) to pick up a couple of 120mm fans...as i was leaving he proceeds to tell me to be careful with them...i presumed he was talking about me catching my fingers or something in the fan and replied "don't worry, i'll try to keep my fingers outta there"

he responds, "no i was talking about static electricity."

so i told him i leave my case grounded to the wall outlet when i work on it, but thanks for the tip anyway

he says, "no static buildup from all those fans"

so i look at him like a he's a retard and he continues on about how "all the time these people go trying to improve airflow through their case and the air creates static electricity when rubbing against stuff and fries components"

so i ask him how he can tell they've been fried by static buildup and he replies "oh, the burn marks look different." very matter of factly

then proceeds to tell me that he recommends a fan controller because you can vary the airflow in your case everyday and help prevent static buildup... "it really helps, after i install these fanbus' in people's system they don't have any problems as long as they remember to change the fan speeds every day."

it was all i could do to get out of there without laughing in his face

another time he told me they handle MCSEing and MCSAing 😀 i didnt have the heart to correct him

Next time you are in there, tell him to make sure he closes before dark each and every night. Explain that computer gremlins only come out when the sun goes down. If the store is still open and they can get through the door, they will sabotage everything and it will make him look like he doesnt know sh1t from shinola.

i think he thinks thats some sort of process performed on computers or something...i don't really know

he said it when i mentioned i was building a file server...said if had any problems to let him know, that they handled MCSEing and MCSAing...i think he thinks its a repair procedure or something 😕

He probably saw you and thought you looked like a sucker, so he was trying to milk you for some more money. Maybe if you didn't look like such a goober that wouldn't happen.

i have a gf2mx around here somewhere... 😀

yup, tell him the fans are a bit smaller on the gf2, so he won't have to worry as much about regulating the fan speeds on it 😛

Fans DO create a static charge......

yeah...

have you ever killed anything with too much airflow?

EDIT: of course if you did you would know immediatley since the burn marks would be completely different 😀

What's his address? I'm going to sell him some Cromium Go-Faster!(tm) to upgrade any and all computers. Macs too!

LOL..."this one doesnt even need to be connected into your fanbus...its a 'static resistant' fan"

Should've told him that you had a floating ground installed on each fan header and a "PC Ionic Breeze" to help ionize the air.
