Not a remake in the bunch. I'm not counting Django because its really just a name they liked and its not a remake.

How did Anthony Hopkins not get nominated for Hitchcock?

Haven't seen any of them, but I'll root for Lincoln and Argo just because I like Affleck and DDL.

is silver linings playbook that good? seemed kinda meh when watching the trailer.

Way better than Lincoln or Le Mis.

Argo or Silver Linings Playbook should win best picture. But neither will.

To me, Lincoln and Le Mis were chores to sit through. Both had some great moments, but overall they were a chore.

I guess I just didn't like Lincoln because I also think Washington gave a better performance in Flight.

And the Master got snubbed, but that was expected with the large number of Scientologists in Hollywood. Hoffman should win best Supporting Actor, but won't.

Like 2 or 3 years ago they changed the Best Picture category to have 10 films instead of 5. They wanted to allow more diversity in the selection which they had trouble doing with only 5 slots. Supposedly part of the reason was a lot of people that that The Dark Knight should've gotten a nomination but that it wasn't really they type of movie that gets Best Picture so it was left out.

Also, I'm disappointed that Quentin Tarantino didn't get nominated for Best Director. He has really done a fantastic job directing over the past about 20 years and never gets the Oscar. Not sure even nominated he could win out over "the" director of the past 30+ years who directed a film about one of the most popular historical Presidents.

Apparently it is way better than the trailer. I agree with you, the trailer looks bloody awful, but everyone I know who has seen it says it is awesome.

Anne Hathaway in "The Next Horse".

PTA should have been nominated for The Master but at least Joacquin was nominated though he apparently has no chance against DDL (giong to see that this weekend). Surprised Bigelow did not get nominated.

If you haven't seen Flight - then you wouldn't know it but Denzel should win.

His performance is one for the ages.

Disgusting that Affleck did not get a Best Director's nod for Argo. Movie was extremely well done.

I think if you look you will find that Les Misérables has been remade no less then 7 times, it being made for the first time in 1935, and about every 10 years since.

I really liked Zero Dark Thirty but I don't want them to win because the producers of that movie are douches. :p

Geez, I completely missed that.

Although it is interesting how many great films apparently direct themselves.

Having seen Argo, Silver Linings, and Life of Pi, and Lincoln I felt Lincoln was the strongest film, it really was a great movie. All were good movies though and I would be happy if any of those win.

(I have a date for les miserables this week)

Maybe it'll be another Hurt Locker year. It was the one with Avatar and Hurt Locker up, I think. One blew box office records, one bombed, and the bomb won.

So, what is this "Amour"?

Every year they try their best to cram in one huge foreign film.

Amour has one pretty much every single award it has been up for. It is from Michael Haneke who did Cache and The White Ribbon, both of which are great and both were nominated for best foreign.

It's about two old French people; the wife begins to deteriorate after a stroke and it is about them dealing with it. I did not like it, but I really need to re-watch it because I think my mind may have been broken that day. It has everything in it that I should love, so not sure what happened when I watched it the first time.
