It's amazing to see how far ahead of it's time this car was, it's a shame they put it out of production, I'd love to see a reproduction of this car in the near future.

More RX7 pron. One of the more popular private RX7 builders doing his last serious project for the foreseeable future.

Haha, looks like in the video with the closing credits, a CHP officer is trailing the car and pulls over with it. Probably wondering where the license plates were as front license plates are required here in CA.

They should just re-release the car 'as is' with some basic interior upgrades. I would buy. :)

I do love the looks of these cars, though nothing I know about Wankel engines makes me think they're a good idea.

My dad had an RX-7 when I was very young. I don't remember the car too well, but I remember sitting in the passenger seat and watching him shift and listening as the car responded as we drove around the city. I was in total awe.

they just look so sleek and liquid. The wankle engine allows for that low and sleek look in the front, thats the key. In order for V6 to fit under there, wouldnt you have to modify the hood?

And what was he talking about with the 17" wheels?? was he saying they were large for their time? He lost me there.

Wow, one of the best Japanese sports cars, ever. I know a guy who owned a 3rd gen RX-7 back in high school. So sick.

He's saying 17" is small compared to modern cars, and that cars handled better back then because they had more sidewall. Modern big wheels are all about styling.

FD's have had all sorts of fun engines swapped in, like V8s and 2JZs. What a v6/v8/i6 engine will mess up is the 50/50 weight distribution. I don't think the RX7 would have the same magic if it had a different engine.

17s were bigger for the mid-90s, but are small by today's standards. The thicker sidewall smooths out the ride and makes they car a little more forgiving and predicable.

The LS1 is only about ~25lbs heavier than a 13B. That said I'll take the one that eats apex seals for breakfast

Yup, only slightly heavier, but the v8 sits a little higher and further forward. That's the sneaky part.

Relocate the battery to the trunk and put a lot of frame stiffening parts on the rear half of the chassis.

That would redistribute the weight, but it would also bump up rotational inertia and mass, making turn responses a little more dull and a little slower.

Rotary has hit the dustbin of history now and for good reason, but 20 years back the RX-7 was definitely a fantastic car at the time. Strangely, the RX somehow got worse while everybody else got better, hence no more RX.
