The only good ants

I woke up Monday morning to see my shower was overtaken by carpenter ants. I'm not sure how they got into the house, but however they got in, they have to go! The house is a new construction so I imagine they got in sometime over the summer before minor things like windows were put in.

The ant baits where they walk in and out of didn't work. They didn't even stop to smell the stuff, they'd just walk over it. The gel in a plastic syringe...they love that stuff!

"Hey, look, someone left all this food right outside our door." "Oh cool, let's eat."

...5 hours later...

"Hey, Suzy, want to get something to eat? Let's go to that place right outside our door. The place where Amy and Mary ate who are now dead..."

...on their way back to the food...

"Wow Tom, you don't look so hot, sorry, can't stay and chat, Suzy and I are off to get some food from that place right outside of our door."

Yeah, if they keep up, you might want to call a pest control company, seeing as carpenter ants are wood destroying.

Ant baits are a waste of money. We tried that crap and they just keep on coming back. Ant bait is right, it doesn't make 'em go away, it attracts them, a sh!t load of them. You need to call the Exterminator.

those baits (the small plastic pentagons) worked wonders for us... one summer they appeared and haven't been seen since... that was at least 3 years ago.

Best to have the pest control come over there and deal with those ants.

You should train them to connect wires and stuff, then they'll get sent to space and you'll make millions.

I like the idea of making millions. To be honest though, right now I'm just trying to train them to die.

I have 2 glue traps set up just beyond the camera for any that don't go for the food. What's weird is that 2 ants have crawled in the glue and lived to talk about it. The first tried for about 5 minutes to free 2 of its legs, which is did. The second just touched it with a leg and was able to get out. 2 others weren't so lucky. The first got onto the trap by about a third of an inch, so I guess she was pulling the wrong way to escape and went deeper into the trap. The other didn't have any luck at all. Her head was found on the floor, half of the body on the plastic right around the glue, and the rest of the body on the glue. I don't know how that happened unless other ants tried to pull her off. From the head to the last set of legs is a string of glue and guts.

Aren't you glad I waited until after lunch to add those details!

What does ants have to do with the Pink Panther theme song? The pink Panther was about a Panther. The only reference to Ants was a show that ran at the same time called the Ant and the Ardvark.

yea you need to do this. the exterminator will spray their path with a poison that will last 6 months. when the ants walk through it they will carry the poison to their next and spread it.

i did this to my moms house in nov and im still finding dead ants. not as many as a week after but on a given week ill find a couple dead in the window ledge.

When I got home yesterday there were 1 or 2 ants around. I think 3 more were in the glue trap. I did free one of them from the trap that was eating the "food" I put a mechanical pencil up to its mouth and it clamped down on the lead. As I was moving him though he let go and fell back in.

This morning when I woke up I saw two ants that had died near one of the walls I've never seen them before, so I'm not sure where they were headed. I'll wait another month when the next birth cycle is complete, but it looks like I might have gotten rid of them.
