the one thing keeping me away from xbox 360...

It has media center support which is truly great, but it is almost completely worthless to me if it cannot handle HDTV from a media center.

Please someone tell me I am completely wrong, or MS will allow this later on.

Those too, but if it could take HD from my first HTPC and stream it, I could just sell my second one in the living room and probably break even roughly.

Yeah. I like the idea of not having to mod the Xbox360 to get media center functionality out of it. That's a huge plus.

Ummm MS is marketing it MUCH more than just a box to play games. In fact check your latest WMP update... it patches it to get ready for 360 support.

Please only chime in if you are remotely educated in the topic at hand.

Ok, so why does the core package come with a GAME controller instead of a MEDIA controller.

The recent MCE rollup 2 that MS released will allow streaming of HD content to the 360.

edit: Worth mentioning that they are suggesting that you have your MCE2K5 box and Xbox360 connected to each other either wired or use 802.11a for wireless. There was a video interview with a couple of MS developers the other day that said while 802.11g is fast enough but it suffers from too much inteference due to so many other devices using the same frequency band. 802.11a won't have the same conflicts.

QFT. I don't think EITHER next gen system is going to sell well right off the bat...

Seriously? Does this mean that I will be able to control the guide and set programs to record etc etc?

Yes, you'll be able to perform all MCE2K5 functions from the Xbox360.

Thats a horrible arguement. Obviously it is primarily a game box, but a VERY close 2nd place runner is its multimeida capabilites. You think MS is going to get a billion 12yr old kids demanding a 360 for Christmas and their barmitvas because it has MM capabilites? No. MS is trying to get a 360 into as many households as it can... PERIOD. And then it has a very strong foothold in the HT/MM market place. Which anyone will tell you is a huge, surging market.

Learn. Think. Don't spout.

I use my modded xbox now primarily to stream vids from my PC to the living room. It's awesome the 360 can do this by default now so I'll have two at home which can do this.

Oh and of course it has the other advantage of better looking games.

The one thing that is disappointing me about the 360s multimedia capabilities is looking like you are not going to be able to stream DiVx or Xvid video.

Well, if it has a 'My Videos' Function like MCE 2005, I would think it could. However, you would probably need to load the codecs...

That would totally suck, that would be just as bad or worse than not being able to do HD.

Right now it is looking like it will only stream WMV, mpeg1, and mpeg2 video formats. I sincerely hope they change that as they will gimp the 360 as a media extender device if they do that. Almost all of my video is in Divx/Xvid.

Yeah, no ******. And by videos you mean porns.

I still think M$ could sink their ship by using a regular DVD-ROM drive and Sony could also fark itself over with Blu-Ray (althout the recent events in the BD-ROM/HD-DVD war seem to favor Blu-Ray slightly).

Once again it's just a wait and see type thing.
