The ONE AND ONLY THREAD about the Divinity in/of Mohammed, Buddha, Baha'ullah, Zarathustra, Quetzalcoatl, Zamolxis.

I'm sick and tired of all these threads about Bible, Jesus and how science is wrong, while the Genesis is right.

Please cut this crap, will ya?

Anandtech might be hosted on an American server (which makes it - sort of - an American site), but enough is enough. There's other religions and beliefs that you might not even be aware of, and you are insulting them without giving things a second thought. At best, you're ignoring them altogether.

I've heard it too many times: Jesus comes to rescue the world, Rapture, all good Christians go to Heaven, everyone else goes to Hell. Frankly, in this situation, it seems that Hell offers a better company.

Have you ever seen a thread started by a Muslim, saying something like "y'all going to burn, infidels"? Did any Buddhist express his opinions that Westerners are mere worms under a rock?

And don't preach on free speech either, because you are NOT practicing it: such threads merely exploit this right, but do nothing to defend/enforce it. The vast majority of these posts do nothing but display the pitiful ignorance of the people who think they are somehow better than the rest, although they don't know anything about the rest of the world. A sort of religious pissing contest, if you like. It's frustrating to be anything else but a WASP or Catholic on this site!

I am really glad, on the other hand, that I have not seen this much religious fundamentalism elsewhere in the world but the United States. No country in Europe would contest evolution (Darwinism), or really consider it wrong in favor of creationism, and try to take it out of the school system. I bet that the situation is similar in the most advanced Asian and African countries. So, does this mean Europeans are morons (and will burn in Hell) ? Snap out of it!

You have every right in the world to believe what you want, but why do you have to shove it in the face of everyone else, especially if the "others" don't do it to you?

Marx was right when he was talking about religion as opium for the masses. I have my own trouble with Communism (most of the members of this board have no idea what living in that system was like), but I respect Marx and his critical views of modern society. Do you see any threads advertising herion on this board? Then why do you have to advertise religiousness, to the point of making others incomfortable?

I wholeheartedly agree with your post, playitagainsam.

Since I live in Europe, I know out of experience that there's noone here who really doubts evolution.

The churches are getting empty here as well... I doubt that at the beginning of the 22nd century many religions will be really alive here in the Netherlands.

WOW
Well said, I tip my hat to you. I swear, one of these days when one of those bible thumpers comes up to me and starts preaching to me, I am going grab their biased book and burn it.

why would people that know nothing of Buddha try to preach about it?

people can only opine on what they are aware of

you are free to share views on what you know, and if you are the minority, oh well, c'est la vie

Hmm. I was wondering if this were true. I read an article in a special issue of Newsweek that religion is becoming less important in the lives of Europeans. NewsWeek said that Europe is in a Post-Christianity phase.

Sounds more like a rant..

Do you have anything to say about the Divinity of these folks that might turn into yet another heated debate?

urbantechie,

Far-fetched as it might sound, I heard this from two of my Korean collegues. They also say that Westerners are not enlightened enough.

zonker

it's a rant, I'll give you that. But the above-mentioned names are just as divine as Jesus, if you ask the followers of those respective religions (or me). Or even more divine, some might say, since both the Muslim and the Baha'i consider Jesus to be just "one" of the profets.

I'm too damn tired of seeing and reading about (a certain part of) Christianity. As for a debate, I'm simply going to change my sig, starting from today.
