The on-going nvidia hardware decoding of HD content struggles

So Apparently the 84.xx series of nVidia drivers was supposed to allow hardware assisted decoding of H.264 etc. content.

So grabbing a quicktime-HD trailer of the apple website, I attempt to play 1080p content, but I still have maxed out CPU usage and dropped frames.

So what am I missing here?

Probably you're missing PureVideo. It's not free. *slaps nVidia with a large trout, we already bought your GPU, dangit*

Does PureVideo/hardware acceleration even work with QuickTime? I was under the impression that QuickTime used its own software rendered (non-DirectShow compliant) and therefore any hardware acceleration support (ATI or Nvidia) was useless with QuickTime vids.
