The Old People Can't Drive Worth Sh1t Thread

Gramps cuts me off in an intersection (he was in the lane to my left; we proceed thru the green light) and decides he's gonna stop in the middle of traffic while deciding which way to turn into the mall lot. Totally oblivious to other cars around him. I would have honked but I already honked at another elderly woman this morning who decides she is gonna attempt to cut me off (she was driving in the lane to the right of me) and drive like a jackass. I was watching her in my rearview mirror for a good five minutes following said incident, and she was driving in two lanes, almost clipped another car. And they say young people can't drive, well I beg to differ.

hehe nice topic summary 😀

yeah, old people, some of then are driving when it is seriously beyond their ability..

In an ideal world, old people would have to prove they are competent to drive at every license renewal. Vision test, written test, driving test, etc.
To make it constitutional, everyone would have to be tested at their license renewals.
It will never happen because the seniors are the largest and most reliable of all voting blocks.
This makes baby Jesus cry. 🙁

I still, and will likely never, understand why it is not required for people to retake their drivers test during the course of their lifetime.

You're telling me that most 80yrs have the reaction times and awarness that is required to operate a motor vehicle safely?

and if anyone cries out "Age discrimination" thats a pile of sh!t. We discriminate agains the 15yr and say they are not ready to drive do we not?

but seriously, how hard is it to pass a driving test? i remember when i did mine in NJ, it was a joke. closed course, no real traffic to deal with.. even if we did require renewals, i bet most elderly would still pass.

It wouldn't have to be for everyone, and even if it were.

There are plenty of morons driving at age 25,35,45 as well, there are just more of them that are seniors...

I'd gladly proove my driving abilities every X years to keep people like this off the road.

I doubt it, driving in two lanes=pass??? I don't think so...

Oh, and lets see them parallel park.

I think all people should have to prove they are fit to still drive once they become senior citizens.

Might vary state-to-state, but here in Ohio we have to drive approx. 2 city blocks in traffic as part of the driving portion. Along with the dreaded parallel parking.

Highest accident per capita rates are in AZ and FL (ie. the retirement capitals), so I'd have to agree with the OP - however, there are huge numbers of people spanning the entire age range and both genders who're a menace behind the wheel... not to mention how SUVs are basically rolling death sentences for anyone in a car who hits them or who they hit at even moderate speeds. I think there's a lot of room for improvement in road safety.

Asian soccer moms are the worst, they drive around in their damn Honda minivans and act like there are no other cars on the road. Totally oblivious.

I've seen too many 20-somethings being arrogant, cocky, aggressive and stupid.
I think I prefer the old folks to THEM! Speeding, tailgating, whizzing in and out of traffic holes, pretending every drive is a race - NEVER signalling!

I think people should test every year for their lisence. Too many bad drivers young AND old!

At least with young people, you KNOW what they're gonna do; however, the oldies you never know what they're going to do next!

I've seen plenty of middleaged men doing this as well, it's not just the young ones by a long shot.

I could definitely go for that... but people who failed would just retake it and drive anyway in the meantime.

total pet peeve of mine!
not all elders are bad... but those who are just make them look so bad.
I've for sure been there, cutoff by an old guy or old woman.... hell it happens once or twice a week!!!

I want some company to design a car that has reinforced titanium ramps on all sides and a titanium hood. That way, when an SUV hits me it will going flying over my car, flip and hopefully catch on fire. And then I will buy that car and I will drive it.

Heh. Thats actually true. You just go "If I were a stupid rushing asshole, what would I do in that guys shoes right now?" And then he does it. 🙂

I think it should be a lot harder to get a license in the first place and old people should be tested at least every 5 years or they forfiet their social security.

I do wish they would force people after 60 to have test more often.

it seems like every year we hear of some old geezer running over and killing a bunch of people. last year it was at a farmers market. so far this year we havent had one yet.
