My g/f's iMac OS 8.6 needs to have the HD cleared of all info, credit accounts, etc.
It was on dial-up. Now we are on DSL w/my self build.
Removing the HD and destroying it, I can do. Is there an easier way?
Thanks for any replys.................

Do you have an acetylene torch? That'd be my bet.

Or a lathe.

Or toss it at a wall or the side of a building or something at 75mph. I'd like to see the results of that.

For situations like that, I simply destroy the hard drive with a hammer. Perhaps a little violent, but it lets out those pent up agressions :)

What kind of shady business is she into? ;)
A multiple-pass format would do the drive... And you can still use it as backup storage?

Just my $0.02

PS: Glad you converted her into PC.

Just format it and then stick the drive in your PC and reformat it NTFS. That ought to be good enough.

BTW, if the iMac still works OK you can format the drive several times and reinstall OS 9 on it, and sell it for a good chunk of change, even if it's just a G3 or something.

Well, if you want to just wipe the drive clean without physically destroying it, just boot off of a Mac OS disc and use the Disk Utility to repartition/reformat the drive. Simple as that.

use a Utility that writes the zeroes back to it...find the make and model from the drive, go to the manufacturers website and get one of their utilities that do this.
